Well, since her real name is Karen Johnson, I think it was a smart move.  MANY people in the entertainment industry take different names for all sorts of reasons, most not stupid. 

 

Example ....   Cary Grant's full birth name was Archibald Alexander Leach.  Can you imagine a movie marquee stating   "starring Archie Leach" ....  

 

Not really all that catchy, is it?
