I haven't seen most of his stuff but I absolutely LOVED him in "Big Love."

He was 61 and was said to have died from complications following surgery.

@SeaMaiden, you're right, it was heart surgery.  At the time I posted that it had not been specified.

I heard on the news that it was heart surgery, and he had a stroke. So terrible.

He died from a stroke after the surgery.  There's a lot of good info on the other thread.

@LoriLori I HAVE seen most of his work, and I agree with you about Big Love. What a talented guy. He was one of my favorites. I remember when I first watched him in Twister, I used to get him and Bill Pullman confused. I have not seen his latest on TV, Training Day, but his son had a role in one of the episodes, and it looks like he might be following his dad's legacy as an actor.

He also had surgery last spring. 

This will cast a pall over the Oscars tonight.

Read that he saw his wife Louise on a London bus 30 years ago and never let her go.  So sweet.  He will be missed.
