First of all, I hope folks read this whole post and take a few moments to reflect before responding. This isn't necessarily a yes/no topic.
I was listening to an NPR discussion about how some people or lifestyles are reflected in tv shows or movies, but others' characters or lifestyles are not typically found, or else the characters might be some sort of stereotype.
If you've ever found a character or tv show or movie that reflected any part of your life, did you gravitate to it, or was it too familiar?
I am thinking but off the top of my head so far I haven't. I've had those I might have wanted to emulate (Mrs. Peel is always at the top of that list), but none that were like my life.
Then again, maybe we don't want to see our own lives but want to be exposed to fantasy, fun, imagination, and whatever else shows and movies can show us.

My character is reflected (I hope) in the character of Claire Danes in “Homeland.”
I gravitate toward her anyway because she was a constant favorite when we used to watch “My So -Called Life” when DD was in Junior High.
In Homeland, which is a made-for-TV limited series, she is a CIA agent who displays such clever thinking even under duress. She is strong and resourceful. “She attacks everything with reckless abandon.” Wikipedia
Sometimes I wish I was her. Claire Danes makes this character real, and for me, in the best possible way.
Thanks! This is a great thread❤️

Interesting question. I will say my bookclub read the book, The Glass Castle. I read it but I opted out of the movie trip with the group. The book bothered me because my dad was an alcoholic until I was mid 30s. Like the father's character, he was brilliant and creative. When he was his best self, he was good. When he was weak and broken, he was pathetic. It is said adult children of alcoholics can read a room because that's what they did, daily, in childhood.
Sally Field was a mom in TV Show, Brothers and Sisters. Nora Walker was her name. She was capable and hopeful and did her best to keep the family together but she absolutely got more involved in her children's lives than I do. I've been told my appearance resembles Sally Field, so I guess I also connect with her in that way.

It would have to be some of the shows on the Science Channel. Not that I'm a physicist .. but I have the same curiosity about how things work in the universe, and just love listening to all the conflicting theories.
I don't watch sitcoms other than some on BBC America. Rarely watch movies. Prefer History, SyFy, Science, NatGeo and, of course EWTN.
