Re: American Idol April 6, spoilers possible

I read this on the Internet this morning:

" ...  Don’t shed too many tears for La’Porsha Renae after she came up short in the ‘American Idol’ finals. She’s already signed a record deal and promises to become a huge star!

While Trent Harmon may have taken home the title of our final American Idol, runner-up La’Porsha Renae is going to have the exact same career opportunities as she’s just signed to show mentor Scott Borchetta‘s Big Machine records. HollywoodLife.com spoke to Scott about his decision to make BOTH finalists into hitmakers.

“Here is what we are going to do, we are going to sign them both! We are going to something different this season, I love both of them! So they are both signed and I am honored to say that she is the first artist signed to Big Machine/Motown! I love them both and they are both great!” Scott told reporters about La’Porsha following American Idol‘s Apr. 7 finale.

La’Porsha revealed: “I have already been signed! It is an honor to sign to Big Machine and Motown and 19 records,” clearly happy that her singing career will live on long after American Idol. According to Billboard, her album will be overseen by Ethiopia Habtemariam, president of Motown and president of urban music/co-head of creative at Universal Music Publishing Group, so she’s going to be working with the best of the best when it comes to putting out her debut record.  ..."

Congratulations to Trent and LaPorsha.  They are both winners!!! Smiley Happy

Re: American Idol April 6, spoilers possible

We all knew that LaPorsha would get a contract with some studio, BUT why couldn't they wait a day or two to give Trent "his day in the sun"?  I feel like it is another "everyone gets a trophy" for participation.  Maybe they should have signed all of them?  I thought LaPorsha had a gorgeous voice and thought she would win, so I am not against her.  There are always winners and losers, not everyone can win.  Just my thoughts this morning.

Did anyone notice how Ryan Seacrest kept trying to pry LaPorsha away from Trent at the end so he could have the spotlight.  Finally, someone came from back stage and escorted her off!

Loved Taylor Hicks' performance.   I loved how he wore the purple jacket he wore at his finale in Season 5 when he won!!

He was getting into it and doing all of his "iconic" Taylor moves.   Love the harp!

I saw Taylor perform here in CA and once in Vegas.   He does an outstanding show.   American Idol sort of turned their backs on him because he didn't fit their "mold."   But, he's a joy to watch and a real nice guy.

He'll be hosting a new show in INSP network on cable about food and travel.   He owns a very successful restaurant in Alabama.  Can't wait! Soul Patrol!!

Great finale tonight.    Nice to see so many familiar faces.   Bo Bice looked so handsome. Didn't even recognize him.

I thought Jennifer Lopez's performance wasn't her best.   It's always about shaking her stuff.   I wish I could once hear her really sing a song so I would know what her voice sounds like.

Loved the little girl who sang with Harry!

I'm glad to read this about Taylor Hicks as I had no idea what was going on in his life these days. I remember really liking him the season he was on.  I, too, thought he sounded great at the finale. It's nice to know you're a fan @Frosted Cake.  I always felt like I was in the minority when it came to liking him!

I thought the exact same thing.  While I expected her to get a contract, it should have never been done right away IMO.  It took away from Trent's win.  Putting myself in his shoes, it wouldn't make me feel so good.  They have never done this in any of the other finale shows.  Trent deserved better.  It would also  make me wonder if LaPorsha was the winner whether they would have signed up Trent.  I thought it seemed rather tacky.

We were ecstatic to see that Trent won and with his illness of having mono at the beginning of the show, he really proved he's got what it takes.

Still the same "HisElk"; trouble logging in and lost the "old me".

Re: American Idol April 6, spoilers possible

It was a good finale.  I prefer La Porsha's voice and style.  Trent is good, I guess, but I don't like male soprano singing.  I was not invested in either of them because I know they will both be a success, at least for a while.

Actually the worst act of the show was J Lo's Vegas performance.  It just doesn't fit on AI.  I like her as a person, but I'd rather see her act than sing(?) and dance.  She's great on "Shades of Blue."

Oh . . . and how could I forget?  Keith Urban rocks my world!!

Re: American Idol April 6, spoilers possible

I used to faithfully watch this show for years and then gave up when Simon left.  I have been on and off watching it this year.  I made sure to watch last night and was glad I did.  I thought the show was fanastic from beginning to end for the most part.  The exception IMO was JLo.  The first song was horrible and while I love Let's Get Loud, her dancing, especially the end, was odd and just awful.

I was shocked when Trent one although he was my pick.  I definitely get the feeling the judges were shocked too.  I can't remember if it was JLo or Harry who mouthed "wow" after the announcement.  I thought they all looked rather shocked.

I caught Ryan saying good-bye for now.  I have been hearing rumors that the show will be back.  Not right away and maybe in a completely different format and not on regular, mainstream tv, but it's not really over.  How true that is, I don't know.

Now I feel like why did I bother to vote? I don't mind her getting a contract but I feel it is a slap in the face to Trent to have her signed so soon. I do hope his CD is a priority and released before hers'.
