Re: Alec Baldwin to be charged with Involuntary Manslaughter in Rust Shooting!

[ Edited ]

I will be surprised if any of the three charged will actually do prison time. If they do, it will be one of the soft site prisons, with early release on probation, or maybe even home arrests.

And 5k fine? That's all? Seems like a slap on the wrist, for irresponsible behaviors, but at least they're being held accountable for a dangerous movie set, as they should be.

Edited to add: The third person facing charges (1st assistant), plead guilty to unsafe accusations. He had minimal sentence applied for stepping up.

It would have served them all well to accept that safety steps in the chain of events were broken down, instead of throwing each other under the bus.

Baldwin and the armorer were charged. I think if it had been any other actor, it would have been an accidental shooting with no charges, but there's a general dislike of Alec.

Exactly...    Even if he's found guilty, he's not going to prison.

Re: Alec Baldwin to be charged with Involuntary Manslaughter in Rust Shooting!

This rests on the armorer and the person who hired the armorer which is not the actor unless the actor is also a producer who was involved in the hiring.

I may be by myself, but this was an accident that never should have happened thanks to the safety expert/armorer who was on set. No actor should ever be handed a loaded weapon on set. It's ridiculous that it even happened and everyone who has any knowledge of the industry knows it.

The actor can't be an actor, armorer, safety expert, scene specialist, director, etc. and it's unfair for a prosecutor to grab onto the most visible famous person for possible other reasons no matter how anyone feels about the man personally or professionally.

Don't know AB. Don't care to know him. But this is a waste of tax dollars for the people of NM in his case.

Charge the people actually responsible for safety on set alone. Sorry they don't merit the same amount of press for the prosecutor's office, but I believe the family of the victim has already dealt with AB directly themselves.

Perhaps we will get lucky and an entitled Hollywood elitist will actually pay for something with jail time.

This guy sniffles and cries more than a toddler.

Hope there are lots of tissues for him in prison!

Re: Alec Baldwin to be charged with Involuntary Manslaughter in Rust Shooting!

He had an obligation as a human being to do a safety check when he picked it up - it doesn't matter if it was a real gun, fake gun, whether he was assured there were no live rounds, whatever.  He was planning on pointing the gun at someone and firing; some responsibility is on him (in addition to the armorer).

I agree completely. It may be a hard press to find a jury who will agree Baldwin was aware he was holding an actual gun. He had every reason to believe he was holding a prop. I believe these charges are politically motivated in that a trial and conviction instantly highlights the individuals in the DAs office. They read the room and know there's hatred for Baldwin (and his wife, too, it seems) so they'll have cheerleaders in this endeavor.

Let the jury decide. Should be interesting.

@Laura14 Alec is one of the producers of the film.  I don't know if he is the one who hired the armorer.
