Alec Baldwin has good attorneys and a boatload of money.  Somehow, he will slither out of this decision, like a snake.

Re: Alec Baldwin to be charged with Involuntary Manslaughter in Rust Shooting!

TMZ is reporting today that the New Mexico DA has dropped the gun enhancement charges against both Alec and Hannah Gutierrez-Reed.  If convicted of involuntary manslaughter without the gun enhancement charge, the maximum sentence is 18 months rather than a minimum sentence of 5 years.

Re: Alec Baldwin to be charged with Involuntary Manslaughter in Rust Shooting!

This is the reason why the gun enhancement charge was dropped:  Baldwin's legal team filled a motion Feb. 10 arguing that the five-year gun enhancement didn’t apply at the time of the shooting writing, "The prosecutors committed a basic legal error by charging Mr. Baldwin under a version of the firearm-enhancement statute that did not exist on the date of the accident." The accident occurred in October of 2021, but the current version of the law did not take effect until May 2022.

The affidavit really spells out how he was negligent in not attending arms training, not checking the gun, etc. They have a good case against him...his own interviews and insistence he never pulled the trigger is hurting him. Whoever his attorney is needs to tell him to be quiet

Do all actors using weapons in a movie have to attend arms training classes and check the guns (even if they don't know how to)?

This makes no sense to me; isn't that why you have all the gun professionals on set?  Aren't they supposed to take care of all that?

I still say in this day and age there is no reason to have real weapons on a movie set.

How embarrassing that the District Attorney charged the two with a crime that wasn't on the books at the time of the shooting.

Are DAs appointed or elected in New Mexico?
