I didn't get to see all of it but heard there was a "glitch" in the jury selection so it will take longer. The trial is supposed to end on July 19. I don't know who they can predict in advance when any trial will be over, especially when you will have a jury that has to deliberate and deliver a verdict.
Maybe bringing Hilaria and the baby was supposed to give the prospective jurors a picture of Alec as being a devoted "family man" and husband or something.

Opening statements will begin today.
A jury of 16 has been selected (12 plus 4 alternates). 11 women, 5 men.
I think that this will be a very, very tough go for the prosecution, since Baldwin's role as a film producer can not be introduced.
A major defense point will be that actors have never, historically, been responsible for second-checking weapons on set.

It depends. It could be an easy win for the prosecution if they can show that Baldwin had extensive training in gun safety from previous films. Baldwin's argument that the gun just went off, can be countered by firearms experts who examined the gun and determined it couldn't have gone off on its own and the trigger had to have been pulled.
In general, you never point a gun directly at another person, even if loaded with blanks. Blanks are still capable of hurling any debris in the barrel out and injuring someone if pointed at them. Camera angles are adjusted to make it look like you're pointing the gun at someone without actually pointing the gun at someone. Baldwin apparently pointed the gun at her and pulled the trigger. If they can convince the jury of just those two facts, it should be a win for the prosecution.

I just don't really understand why they couldn't bring in the fact that Baldwin was also a Producer...doesn't make any sense to me at all...However, there is so much other evidence regarding concern and carelessness of safety regulations, including the working conditions on the set, etc. and, depending on who the witnesses are, I think this is going to prove to be a very contentious trial for both sides.
It will be interesting!
eta:...I just wanted to add that most of the jurors have, most likely, been very aware of this case already, so I would think that most would know that Alec was a Producer on the film.
Vinnie Politan, on Court TV last night, had some of the questions and answers that were given to potential jurors and one of the questions regarding gun safety revealed that the jurors felt checking any gun before using is very crucial regardless.

@Estellee...Yes, they will be covering the case...I'm in the Northeast so there is a two hour time difference from New Mexico and it will start around 11:00 here.
Also, Law and Crime Network on YouTube will be covering it.

This should be an interesting event, but hope Baldwin maintains his serious demeanor; he seems to have been given the ultimate reality check by actually being indicted and now sitting at his own trial. High-priced attorneys vs Santa Fe attorneys should be quite a show. I hope they nail Baldwin's hide to the wall.

Baldwin's role as producer on the movie is probably one of the worst-kept secrets in Santa Fe. The shooting made national news and the fact Baldwin was the producer was always mentioned. If it weren't for high-priced NYC attorneys, I would say a guilty verdict would be certain. The judge said the trial will end on July 19. Maybe it will end sooner if they don't have a lot more evidence to present than what we have seen in the news. Sounds like they are hauling in a lot of different experts but the bottom line is that the gun did not fire by itself without Baldwin pulling the trigger, after pointing it at the victim.
