Her signature performances included the title role in “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie” and Maria Callas in “Master Class.”

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that, @golding76 . While not as well known to film audiences, she was a theater legend. Trust you, my cosmopolitan pal, to know about her.
I remember as a teenager finding out she pronounced her name "Zo", rather than the more familiar two-syllable "Zo-ey". For some reason, even that seemed rather glamorous and sophisticated to me at the time! A brilliant actress. RIP Zoe Caldwell.

How many theater legends are still alive? Caldwell is the last of a treasured few, I believe.
She had a turn in The Purple Rose of Cairo.
I never saw her perform on stage. Although I did see Master Class, I saw the touring company starring Tyne Daly (who, unbelievably, was stellar in that role -- had no idea she possessed such acting chops).

I absolutely loved Maggie Smith in that role. In fact, whenever I think of Miss Jean Brody, I envision Maggie Smith. She is immensely talented.
