@Wsmom wrote:I felt a few of the professionals didn't quite get the memo that they weren't there to be the star but rather to help with the contestant. Some were great letting the contestant be in the spotlight; a couple felt they needed to grab it from them.
I went back to watch some of Tori Kelly's auditions. Simon was just plain nasty to her. She clearly got the last laugh.
@Wsmom Whenever AI refers to Tori as an AI alum I laugh to myself- she was eliminated so early on and now is a STAR. They missed out on a huge talent, Tori definitely got the last laugh!

@corita wrote:I watched last night and still really like Willie! But I think AI is making a huge mistake in letting the 'star' singers have such a major lead in the duets. So many of last night's contestants absolutley faded when they sang in the duos.
Several of the contestants have great voices but not the star presence needed for an AI winner. They need more training; acquiring more confidence and enjoying the drama of the show!
Yes I agree, I thought many of them did well on their own, but throwing them in with big stars on their first live show I think was too much for many of them. I am interested to see how tonight goes, there are several I like that will sing tonight.
@TurnerGal I liked seeing the final 24 with the performers- it was great they were mentored by estabished stars (rather than Bobby Bones!). My daughter walked into the room, puzzled- "they're at the finals already"? !
Some of the contestants shined- others not as much. I can't recall the contestant names this early on....EXCEPT Murphy who was eliminated!
Yes, last night when I thought several of the performances were not great, I kept thinking that Murphy was so much better and should have been there. Maybe they were afraid he would be too popular and he wasn't the type of talent they wanted to push forward. He will show up somewhere else, he should go check out the Voice.
@TurnerGal I found myself googling Murphy's performances as I watched AI! HIs Jim Croce week gave me chills. Murphy is already getting recording offers.
As much as I enjoy watching The Voice, the show seems to boost the coaches careers rather than the contestants.

Anyone watch the Top 16 last night? I thought the ones that made it thru were the right ones. I am not sure who will get cut tonight. I just read the Luke won't be there because he tested positive for Covid. Paula will fill in for him.
I think if I had to pick 4 to go home tonight the four would be Graham, Alanis, Caleb and Colin?
I guess the judges pick 2 and the audience 10.

There is another interesting change this season, not sure how I feel about it. At some point in the next few weeks they will allow some of the top 12 from last year to sing on one night. I guess we will vote and one of those people will be allowed back in the competition to compete with this season's top 10.

@TurnerGal That's very odd!!! If they're doing something 'outside the box', they should just bring Murphy back !!!

@TurnerGal Luke testing positive is very disheartening- he was on stage last night with Lionel & Katy, I hope they stayed 6 ft minumum from him - but their seats look maybe 4 ft apart. I imagine Lionel and Katy will be tested several times in the next 2 weeks.
I love seeing Paula tonight! And Randy called in too! Ahhh- the good old days of AI.
My favorites this year are Will, Chayce and Grace. All 3 were safe tonight!

@Ibby114 Someone else posted that the show on Sunday night was not live and was filmed a week ago? But I was also thinking they were sitting too close and they were yelling a lot, so hopefully Kathy and Lionel are ok.

@Ibby114 I agree they should definitely bring Murphy back. I was trying to figure out why the math didn't work, because I thought 4 were going home, Wyatt wasn't there. I really liked him, someone said maybe he didn't follow Covid rules and got booted?

@TurnerGal that's right- Wyatt wasn't there! I don't remember the names too well yet, but he was another male singer with a gravely type voice. Murphy should definitely come back then!
