Yeah, the films you all have mentioned have me thinking.  I guess my all-time favorite performances of his were as "Les Mangrum" in "The VIP's",  as the German soldier who "turns" and helps American prisoner James Garner in "36 Hours" (he and James Garner both have that high "audience identification" factor!) and for comedy, with Doris in "The Glass Bottom Boat". 

 

I can never get over that when Doris and Arthur Godfrey are warbling "The Deep Blue Sea",  Rod is chortling and almost rolling on the floor in the most realistic and funny manner possible-- he makes that scene for me!  Consummate professional.

 

I'd like to see him in the "Young Cassidy" film he mentioned, about Sean O'Casey...
