A Streetcar Named Desire 5:45 p.m. Eastern TCM

What more can be said?   One of those intense plays and movies, realized almost perfectly on the screen with Brando, Vivien Leigh and wonderful character actor, Karl Malden.

Seeing the emotionally fragile Vivien Leigh play such a mentally fragile character is poignant.  Apparently she had a very difficult time on the film, and allegedly was romantically toyed with by director Elia Kazan, in a way that was unconscionable.

Her performance, like Brando's bellowing, brutal "Stanley",  reached a very high level.

Tennessee Williams' immortal lines,  "I have always depended on the kindness of strangers"  entered the vernacular, thanks to the celebrated film and Leigh's performance...

Fact is VL suffered from manic depression. Tragically displayed signs easily detected today. Documentary watched explained later years she gradually progressed to dangerous levels of behavior. So sad didn't have to be with proper medical treatment. Every time watch her no matter the film she touches my heart and soul. RIP🌷

I think you about summed it up, Oznell !  Streetcar was and is a film classic, a movie for all time.  Brando was at his best and Vivien Leigh fabulous !  The emotional intensity of the movie came across to the audience loud and clear.  Whomever casted the movie did a spectacular job of picking Brando, Leigh and Malden, they gelled and they were believable.  A true cinema work of art!!!

Its amazing that with so many classic films the casting was spot on...

there is a documentary about Gone With The Wind in which they show

the screen tests of some of the other candidates for Scarlett ...when you

see them it is clear how genius it was to cast Vivien Leigh in that part ...

OMG .. Brando as Stanley ....
