"Torch Song"-- Joan Crawford, Michael Wilding, Gig Young, Henry Morgan
Camp classic-- one we've discussed before, but I'm sometimes surprised how many Joan fans have missed it.
Musical theater star diva Joan, tangles spectacularly with her new, British, vision-impaired accompanist (Michael Wilding). Fireworks conceal big attraction on both sides. Attraction wins out-- surprised? Ha. Great, soapy fun and Fifties' sets, costumes etc.

I like this movie a lot. Carol Burnett did a spoof of on her show call The Torchy Lady. It was hilarious.

Oh, I wish I'd seen that, @qbetzforreal -- Carol would have a satirical blast with this kind of material!

@Oznell- Carol really nails Joan's mannerisms.

I love Carol Burnett and miss her show. Yes, it's been ages since it was on, but great entertainment never goes out of style. One of the 24/7 tv shopping channels, perhaps Mall(?) sells videos of the show, but I have stayed away. Too many sites already have my cc info which probably means everyone has it. 😮

Can't believe I've missed this one!
Thanks for info!

I have seen Torch Song a couple of times and enjoyed it. You are right, Oznell, with your description, Soapy Fun ! I also love the fifties settings. I do have to say though I never was a fan of the hair do's from the fifties. Looking at the picture of Joan shows how much older those fifties hair styles made us all look, young and old!

So true, @spiderw-- and Joan's particular sort of angular, dramatic bone structure, did not fare well with tiny, curved bangs and fluffy "halo" cuts. The styles of both the Forties' and even the Sixties' seemed more flattering to her...
Longer, softer hair and less harsh make-up looked so much better on her, esp. in Forties' flics like "Humoresque":
