@Beth-QVC or any other Mod:  I know this has been mentioned before, but I just watched the Quacker Factory two-hour show and, if the host (I think Christine Zell?) said "fabrication" one more time, I would've screamed.

Does QVC really think that this makes the hosts sound more educated?  It seems one host started it and now they're all doing it, instead of just saying "fabric".  To fill air-time?

Even my DH heard it being repeated and said "Why on earth are they saying fabrication?  That isn't what fabrication means."  I told him it's the latest "thing" to say.

I also know this suggestion - that the hosts go back to calling it what is it, fabric - will fall on deaf ears and usually I can ignore it, but today's host used it over and over and over and over, right to the last minute.

It makes them all seem like they're trying to impress with big words.  And it doesn't work; it just grates on the ear.

Okay, rant over.  I know it's useless.  I now normally record and fast-forward past all the "chatter", so if that's QVC's aim, congratulations, but with QF I'd like to be able to listen to what Patrick and/or Angel has to say.  Woman Frustrated

@VeneziaI couldn't agree more it is so annoying !  MODS please, if you can,  tell the higher ups to tell the host to stop!!!   The meaning of the word " fabrication " has nothing to do with "fabric" !!!!!!

Re: "FABRICATION" - arrrrgggh!

fab·ri·ca·tion
ˌfabrəˈkāSH(ə)n/
noun
noun: fabrication; plural noun: fabrications
  1. the action or process of manufacturing or inventing something.
"the assembly and fabrication of electronic products"

Fabrication can be used to discribe the way a particular garment is constructed, or the way in which the particular fibers are constructed, ie. knitted vs. woven. A Barefoot Dreams 100% polyester garment has a completely differen fabrication than a 100% polyester blouse from Susan Graver.

Here we go again indeed.

The fashion industry has terminology that has been used forever.  If you are in the industry, some terms are mandatory to know, not just colloquially used.  Fabrication is one of them.  There are lots of textile and fashion industry sources online where this information can be found.

7. Fabrication

DEFINITION

The selection of fabrics for the style or line of garments. The same style is frequently produced in more than one fabric. [1]

Re: "FABRICATION" - arrrrgggh!

@Venezia.  The word "fabrication" seems to used industry-wide now to describe what we would call fabric.  I hear it used everywhere, not just at QVC.  I'd like to ask someone really knowledgable like Bob Mackie or Louis del Olio how this got started.  I agree it's very annoying and offends the ear.

Thanks @Caaareful Shopper!  Substituting the word "fabric" just won't do.

Re: "FABRICATION" - arrrrgggh!

I don't really like to hear the word fabrication tossed around as much as it is by some QVC host, but it is the ord they must hear repeatedly from the buyers when they meet to review the fashions.  From what I hear on my little industry grapevine of buyers for retail stores fabrication is a term they seem to use universally now to describe a fabric's content -- even if it's 100% of one fabric.

Hearing some toss the term around still doesn't bother me as much as calling the exact price of an item the "price point".  I'll say it again price point is "a point on a scale of possible prices at which something might be marketed." In other words a price range one can expect from a brand; or for a specific item when that item is compared to similar things.

I have watched many shows featuring Bob Mackie and Louis Del'Olio and I do not believe I have heard either gentlemen utter the word "fabrication" and they should certainly know the correct terminology.

@Carolm  I've heard Louis Dell'Olio use it many times.  I don't typically watch Bob Mackie shows, so I cannot attest to him using the word.
