I just noticed this "Best Answer" Feature when I posted a thread last night...What is the purpose of this?...Are we now to rate who gives the "Best Answer"?...Is this really necessary?...What is next?....Best Thread...Best Poster...Best Message Title...
I find it rude and insulting...Everyone's replies are to be respected and appreciated....well, almost everyone...LOL...Seriously, this reminds me of HIgh School and I, personally, don't find any redeeming quality about having this feature.
Okay, I feel better now!

It's not about popularity and it's not personal. It's about how well an answer to a question solved the person's problem.
If you're asking a question, some responses are better than others and not every answer is equal. That's just a fact. It's not that the other answers aren't appreciated, but not every answer really solves the problem as well as another. That's why only the person who asked the question gets to choose the one that best answered his or her question.

Lots of websites use something similar -- think Amazon with its book reviews, for example - best postive, best negative.
I find I do better to read more answers if it's a topic/book I care about and then make my own decision.
I don't get exercised about it - I just pretty much ignore that feature.

@ChynnaBlue....I appreciate and respect your reply and personal explanation....At the same time, I still find this feature to be totally unnecessary, rude and insulting....I, personally, come here to relax and enjoy sharing with everyone....If I happen to start a thread, which is rare, I'm not going to get involved in picking out who gave me the best reply or answer....It is beginning to feel more like a silly little game...We have the heart feature and that is enough...We don't need a bunch of childish features in order to share and reply to each other.
I'm thinking how it would be in "real life", when I get together with friends or family and, while having a discussion with each other, we go around rating who has given us the best replies or answers...LOL
Again, I appreciate your reply and respect our differing personal opinions!
I shall survive!...LOL

@millieshops....Reviewing a book or clothing item, product, etc. is totally different from rating a poster's personal reply/opinion...They are inanimate objects...We, on the other hand, are animate beings, which explains why we are expressing our feelings and opinions with each other right now!...At least, last time I checked, I was animate!..LOL....I hope you realize that I am just using some sense of humor right now...a personal animate habit of mine.
I am home today and was just posting my personal opinion regarding my discovery of the "Best Answer" feature last night...It is rare for me to post threads so, when I saw this feature last night, I clicked on the "Best Answer" box in one of the posts just to test it out and to see what happens...I then ended up clicking on everyone's post, including my own, so we all ended up having the best answers!....Happy Ending!...LOL

There's nothing inherently childish about picking a best answer. Imagine trying to cook dinner and asking a group of people for help with the cooking method - baking, stovetop, steaming, or microwaving. You don't choose ALL the answers and make 4 dinners, you pick the one that is best for you.
Picking a best answer isn't childish.

If there's one thing we all can agree about it's that every feature has its fans and it's not-such-fans.
I'll just add what I wrote in the other thread on this topic ("PLEASE get rid of the green giant check marks").
In theory, this seems like a helpful feature. But only if the question is the type which has only one right or best answer (asking for the item number of a specific product, or the title of a book, for example). Otherwise, from reading numerous posts about this, often it seems to come across as being less than useful since most questions have more than one possibly correct/best answer.
There are times when I do wish the OP of a thread had the ability to lock it after the questions are answered -- that way we could stop the cycling through of the same answers being repeated and repeated and repeated. After pages and pages of responses, sometimes (not always) a very long thread can run its course.

@ChynnaBlue....Okay,so now we are getting into cooking dinner and who knows what other examples could be in the making...LOL.. so I will just say that I respect your personal opinion and let me assure you that this is not causing any disruption in my personal life whatsoever...I am simply having a relaxing day off here and decided to express my opinion regarding my discovery of this feature last night.
Now, you have me thinking about what I want for dinner tonight or if I even want to be bothered cooking....Now that is an opinion that I could use help with and the best answer for me is to not bother cooking!...I will go with leftovers!...LOL

@dooBdoo...So good to "see" you!...Yes, I agree that "every feature has its fans and its not-such-fans!"...so, I just entered myself into the "not-such-fan" category!...LOL...I love it!
By the way, "tiny kittens" is rather quiet right now...all cats and kittens have been in the process of being adopted, so it is pretty much becoming an empty house, which is quite a rarity in the "tiny kittens" world!
I realize I just went O/T but that is my right since I'm the one that started this thread!...LOL
Okay, I'm headed out on this beauitful, chilly Fall day here in the Northeast!..."Real Life" is beckoning me!
I hope all is well with you!

I don't know, the threads I've seen people use best answer for it sure wasn't applicable. Either the best answer picked doesn't actually answer the OP question or the subject of the thread wasn't one where best answer would apply because it was a conversation thread. Now if it was actually used because someone asked, where do I find this, or what's the item number of that then sure. But that hasn't been the case in many of the threads I've seen it used in.
