Re: Why hide the country of origin?

There are some brands like MacKenzie Childs that had in the past traditionally been known to come from one manufacturing location. Times have changed.

I remember how disappointed I was the first time I picked up a piece of Portmeirion at Home Goods and saw it was from China and not Stoke-on-Trent, UK. Yes, it seemed more cheaply made. They farmed out much of their accessory pieces.

Re: Why hide the country of origin?

I remember when MC had their TSV of 3 mini canisters ... I was in (but heard they were from Vietnam) which was okay but waited for reviews before spending $170.

So much negativity about labels being crooked, rubber gaskets weren't secure, inferior paint job on some.

Still love those cute canisters, but didn't buy!

Re: Why hide the country of origin?

I have found when looking at items, most do not list country of origin. Used to say, imported if not country of origin. Now no listing at all

Re: Why hide the country of origin?

I've noticed many times COO is hand hidden by hosts in fashion. I've tried my best to try and see and it's made impossible.

I'm not naive enough to think it's accidental. Not in sales.

For me clothing made in Vietnam always fit me well.   I wish they would say where they are manufactured.

Just goes to show you a little something about Pat.  She is always pushing the Q card thing too.

Re: Why hide the country of origin?

Vendors and companies hide COO because of the useless drivel and misguided hate about imports.

If we want other countries to buy from us, we have to buy from them.

Tariffs are a tax on consumers. Importers pay it and the cost is passed from buyer to buyer until consumers pay it at checkout.

Re: Why hide the country of origin?

I didn't see this particular presentation.  And I haven't noticed hosts who cover the COO.  But I'm not surprised to hear PJM did this.  She has always been the type to me who seems to go out of her way not to offend anything or anybody.

On the subject of deception, I was watching one of the all day gem shows. I think they were showing tanzanite rings. They kept flashing a card up on the screen kind of like a romance card. I finally focused on the bottom of the card and it stated the stone was heat treated. I am sure they did it to legally inform the customers w/o actually saying the stone was heat treated. I thought at the time it was a sneeky dishonest thing to do.

Even if they flashed some card during the TV presentation, I would imagine it would also have to be in the online descriptions for those items.  If it was, that's not sneaky.
