Every year around this time, we start to hear many of the Q's hosts and vendors yakking about why this item, these shoes, or that piece of clothing would be ideal for when we go out pumpkin picking. Why do they think pumpkin picking is a major event for most Americans? The way they talk, you'd think choosing the right pumpkin is as important as finding the right new car, the best vacation spot, or the perfect Christmas tree.
Yes, in the fall, some people like to go out shopping for pumpkins to use as seasonal decorations or as ingredients in pies. But in all my 60+ years, I have never thought doing it was a big deal, and I don't know a soul who makes a day out of pumpkin shopping. If I want a pumpkin, I simply pick one up at the supermarket while doing my regular food shopping. And I dont need a new outfit or new gadget to do it.

In my area of the country, pumpkin farms and pumpkin picking IS a big deal. It's a time for family fun that not only includes picking pumpkins, but hay rides, corn mazes, pumpkin painting contests, pumpkin chucking contests and the list goes on and on.
The last place I look to buy my pumpkins is in my grocery store.

Totally agree with you..let's not forget apple picking time as well! I may go to my local farmer's market or co op for pumpkins and apples..but I sure don't make it an all day thing or buy new clothes or shoes to do it in!!!

Maybe because suggesting cow tipping would not be popular with PETA? ![]()

BUT... the best line I've heard in a long time...the other shopping channel was selling a Roomba..which I was interested in...so watched for a while. The selling point...repeated several times..more time to play POKEMON GO..I KID YOU NOT!!!![]()

Here on Long Island fall and Halloween are a huge business time what with pumpkin picking and mazes and fun houses and the wineries running at full tilt.
I'm pretty sure Halloween is giving Christmas a run for the biggest amount of money we consumers devote to any holiday. No wonder QVC is right there.

It is a big deal and greatly anticipated by young children in my area. We have 2 great places within an hour from me. I have been going for 20+ years and it does take time to do everything. You have a large fenced in area decorated for fall and Halloween. Take your camera because the kids have to play on the large pirate ship and get there picture taken by the 7 foot scarecrow who is holding a large yardstick. The pictures show your child's growth, even a 16 yr old young lady who lived with me several years. Lots more spooky thing as you make your way around to the back to the petting farm. You can stop in the spring to see the new babies. There are rows and rows of pumpkins sorted by size and starting at $1. They have a hayride if you want to go out in the fields to pick your own pumpkins. Back inside their is a small lunch area, old time candies and homemade bake goods for sale. Also a small country giftshop with handmade items and a variety of items for seasonal decorating. Oh and I forgot the seasons local fruits and veggies and apple cider. I am sure I have forgotten something but I have an 8 yr old grandson who can't wait to go in October. Grandma will have her camera of course.

KimmC - you may not have heard this story, but it was picked up by some national news sources: a couple here in Arizona was arrested because they left their 2-year-old son home alone at night while they went out to play Pokemon Go. Unbelievable!

Going to the pumpkin farm is fun.

Well, here in New England, we do pick out our pumpkins and we pick apples at farms and orchards but it's a casual, laid back thing. No one gets dressed up for it. Sneakers, jeans and sweat shirts. I've always been quite amused that Qvc hosts refer to it soooooooo often.
