I'm guilty as charged!  I often will say, "Today I picked up........" when I've been shopping.

To say, "what did you pick up" sounds less crass and commercial than, "what did you buy".

They don't want to emphasize that you just spent a ton of money so they choose code words for shopping. It's no different than saying you can get this home for $10 easy pay instead of actually telling the person It will be $60 by the time you add tax and shipping.

There was one host on recently, and during the course of her item presentation, kept saying "Grab it" over and over again.  Wish I had counted the number of times she said "if you like this item, grab it now".

Also, when a color sells out, they say "Congratulations if you got that," as if you won a prize, and didn't have to pay for the item. Lol.

It doesn't matter how a host says it.  Can you imagine having to talk about a boring product for 20 minutes?  They have to fill time.  People need to give themselves a break and relax about words used by hosts.
