Re: This is on Fire! - My trigger word and Venting

A few years back on these forums, there was a poster who was always claiming to be doing "market research" for a class she was taking.  Seemed an odd way to do that, even back then.

@ConsumReporter

You sound analytical and are more likely to see these techniques since you are in a marketing class as I see them with my business background.

I understand what you are doing. It's what analysts and researchers do all the time.  Much of it is understanding human buying behavior and how to position products to sell, what techniques work.

For me, when I do watch QVC, I'm analyzing sales techniques much more than I am paying attention to the products they are selling.

Yes, it is fascinating to watch and analyze companies, but I know others do not have the same interests.

@Foxxee @ConsumReporter   I find your comments very interesting and benefited from such research in my previous working life.  So much goes into coming up with any edge possible to close sales.  Thanks for your insight.

They say you always want what someone else has....so I hear 90 percent of the women hosts say they are "going to buy it after they get off the air -or- I hope there are some left for me"   I do not believe it.

OP isn't wrong but don't watch any more or take a break. There are a million other things to do in life that are FUN! Sometimes people living in a bubble of any kind forget that.

Wrong is still wrong just because you benefited from it.

Re: This is on Fire! - My trigger word and Venting

For many people who watch QVC, it is the only form of entertainment they see all day. They view the hosts as their friends, and they take personal interests in them. That's why hosts talk about their families, their kids, etc.  I am not interested in the least, so I just look online to see what has been shown on the air. If you don't like the repetitive comments by the hosts, turn on the mute button or change the channel. Easy-Peary

Different things trigger different people. If I had lost everything in a wildfire, I'd be sensitive to that term too.

One thing I learned over time is that I am better when I don't let things such as this take up space in my brain. There isn't anything you can do about it. If something creates sales, they will continue.

There already is enough stress and anxiety in this world. I turn the channel if something on a tv show starts to bother me.

ConsumeReporter - I hear your frustration and emphatize with you.  What I don't understand is the need that other posters seem to have for jumping in and trying to shame posters for venting a frustration.  Why not just keep your snarky comments to yourself and if you are an emphatic person, just show it!
