There are several alternatives ... there is wood derived foam as well as packing material made from mushrooms. Both of these are ecco friendly snd can offer the same level of protection as styrofoam.
So what is the cost of this type packing? What are the effects environmentally of producing and disposing of this type of packing? How much will this add to the cost of the products?
Will it actually be any better in the bigger picture for the environment? If it is available, there must be a reason it isn't being widely developed and used.

I totally agree QVC should come up with different packing material. Since QVC VENDORS mostly purchase items made in China it would be very helpful if you would require shredded paper packing material. I get very frustrated when trying to unpack items enclosed in styrofoam as it usually chips, breaks off in chunks 'n gets everywhere. Also little particles of it come out making it look like it snowed on my floors. I bought a ton of things from Valerie for Christmas and clean up was a nightmare as I was constantly sweeping, vacuuming up those little styrofoam particles that got everywhere!!! I'm tired of that and actually would prefer that QVC made better attempts with manufacturers in good ole USA!!!

I greatly appreciate the styrofoam packaging—with it, nothing fragile has ever arrived broken, and without it, I've received many broken items from the Q and other retailers. In some cases, I've even kept it for item protection while in storage. All of the packages I've received from the Q have used recyclable (rather than single-use) styrofoam, which I appreciate. I'm fortunate to live in an area where our recycling companies accept styrofoam in our regular weekly pickups, and I know that there are local sites that take dropoffs from residents who do not have this option with their city recycling.
Obviously, the environmental effect from unrecycled styrofoam is a concern, and it would be great if a comparable and similarly cost effective solution that is more "natural" were more widely used/available. I know several companies are working on this issue, and I hope a solution is discovered soon.

Unfortunately our city does not have a recycling bin for this type of packing. It makes me cringe when I have to put it out for the garbage trucks to haul off to the dump, as I know it will be there forever. But, as far as using it for packing, nothing irratates me more than to get something in that cheap fall apart foam that is molded to the item, but you cannot even get it off without it crumbling in many, many pieces. VPH items come like this a lot. At least the better quality foam is some I can store the item in if I chose to, as it is very sturdy.

I agree!!! As I was unpacking the holiday decor, that cheap Styrofoam packing would break off in little shreds and fly all over the room!! I cannot put that stuff in our recycle garbage canisters, the city will not accept it.
Of course, I don't want items to arrive broken, but there must be some other more environmentally beneficial packing material around.
