I know at the beginning of the year you will start showing Nutrisystem's diet plan.  Marie Osmond is a very sweet person, but a lot of us hate the Nutrisystem food, and if you don't like the food the diet doesn't work. I have tried to like it several times, but it was just a waste of money.  No more!    How about a change.  South Beach Diet advertises more lean protein, and maybe the food tastes better.  It would be nice to have a choice instead of Nutrisystem.

I too tried Nutrisystem once and couldn't get through 1 month.  The food is horrible.  Almost anything would be a better choice.

I'm curious to know the drop off percentage after the first month.

@daisy4  if memory serves me right, south beach was all the rage years ago. i believe it was very low carb.  that's when the big craze came out with making mashed potatoes with cauliflower became popular. i don't really think it's all that healthy to eliminate a entire food group, such as carbs from your diet. personally, i don't want to go any extended amount of time without a carb.

i started a "plan" a couple of weeks ago. trying to restrict fats and sugar, and moving more. nothing drastic, not stressing, anything. just making better choices.

i've lost a few lbs.so far, but i think i'm in it for the long haul this time.

I wouldn't touch anything connected with Marie Osmond. I know this will get removed, that's ok.

You should think about checking with your doctor before you go on any diet plan.

@kittyloo

You're right.  Both doctor and trainer at the gym advised against any "diet" that restricted carbs.

Agree.  DH tried NS several years ago.   Food is not important to him. He will eat anything.  He puts ketchup on bread and calls it a sandwich.   Most of the food was orange.    He ate some of it and threw the rest away.  Horrible stuff.

I've lost 80 pounds to date.  It took a lot of time but it finally happened.  I worked with a trainer the first year and found out a lot of things about my body.  Among other things.....

Carbs - I needed 120-140 good carbs every day to function.  Carbs keep me warm in the winter, give energy, and provide support to the whole body including the brain.

Fats - I need 42-46g good fats every day.  I found I would not lose weight the weeks I didn't get this amount every day.

Protein - I needed 80g protein per day.  I got most of them from non-meat items but didn't hesitate to have small, lean pieces 3-4 times a week.  I also drank Premier Protein shakes every day -- 30g protein with just 1g sugar and lots of vitamins.  Chocolate was my fav.  I love halibut, salmon, and other meaty seafood and still eat it at least twice a week.

Fruits and Vegies - I eat them every day.  I probably don't get the servings I'm supposed to every day but I find ways to include them in whatever I do fix.  I love winter apples, bananas, and mandarins and am eating a lot of these right now.  It's easy for me to get enough in the summer as i love summer fruit.

I also had to exercise at least 20 minutes per day.  When I worked, I used the treadmill for 15-30 minutes and then worked on some of the resistance machines.  Now that I'm retired, I walk my dog twice a day and lift weights at home.

Good luck to whatever you do.

I'm not aware of any diet that eliminates carbs all together. I believe South Beach stresses healthy carbs from veggies, and not junk carbs from processed grains and sugar.

All carbs are not created equal. I'm a marathoner and I strength train twice a week, and I limit my carbs to about 100 per day mostly from veggies and whole grains. There is so much information available today for free (including support groups), I don't know why anyone would pay to enjoy a healthy lifestyle.
