Shipping Issues with Food Items

I am really getting frustrated with the shipping of especially the food items like the Lindt Truffles and the Jimmy The Baker items I order a lot of.  They are sent vis UPS, then they are transferred to the USPS for delivery.  It is taking weeks to get these precious items and it is ridiculous to have to wait that long for anything, especially an item in the food group!

I know I am not the only one frustrated by this.  And having been in the logistics area I am conscious of the issues with the shipping, shippers, vendors, inventory,  etc.....problems in the area since before the pandemic began.  But it really is frustrating that such a big company like QVC doesn't have more control over this issue.  I know Amazon has a much better system in place and I can rely on getting my items in a much quicker time frame from them.

QVC can do better and it should do better.  Still waiting for my October Lindt Truffle order, and soon my special Christmas Lindt order will be shipped.  And then the Jimmy The Baker stuff I have on auto delivery.  Frustrating, discouraging, and avoidable!!!!!

Re: Shipping Issues with Food Items

@Blitzens.  Are you aware that all food is shipped by the vendors from their facilities?  They choose the shipping method and packaging.

I was on auto delivery with Jimmy the Baker for several years and always got my orders about 48 hours after they shipped with no problem.  Have gotten Lindt the past 3 Years with no problem, right on schedule.  My 2023 order ships next week so we'll  see what happens.

I guess I have been fortunate when it comes to the food delivery process. I have only ordered the Faroe salmon 2 times and both times they were delivered within 4 days from the east coast via UPS and I'm in the midwest.  The salmon was still chilled. I can't say that for everything I have ordered of course. I have had orders on occasion take up to nearly 10 days with transfers from UPS to USPS and that was frustrating.

@Kachina624 - I have to disagree about who specifies the shipping method.

I've been ordering Just Bagels for several years now.  The QVC website specifies 2-day shipping.

However, I've in recent months received a shipment that took over 5 days to get to me and were molding at that point (heat; blueberries - yuck).  I wrote to Just Bagels because they arrived in such poor condition and asked why they hadn't shipped them on a Mon - Weds as they claim and by UPS Ground, not the 2-day shipping.

I still have the written reply which I forwarded to QVC.  It is QVC that determines how the items are shipped and supplies the shipping labels.  For some areas they specify 2-day shipping.  For other areas (presumably ones they feel are "closer") they supply labels for ground shipping.  But their website does not tell the customer that.

Well, in my rural area they don't deliver on Saturdays or Sundays and even though my order was at the depot 15 miles from my home on the Friday, they let it sit in the warehouse over the weekend.  When it did arrive, it was moldy.  I've also had two subsequent orders that, despite the "Handle With Care" were flattened and inedible, the box broken open.  Clearly, they were loaded underneath a lot of heavier packages.

And just last week I received a large food order from England, for which I paid Express "guaranteed" 2 day shipping.  It took them 7 days; on the 6th day, they were literally within 5 miles of my home, when the van took off in another direction and around 5 o'clock I got an email that they were delaying the delivery.

It was supposed to be redelivered the next morning between 9 - 11.  It finally arrived at 7 PM; same thing, the van was 3 miles away, when it went off on a magical mystery tour.  The box was black with filth; I won't even insult your intelligence with the condition of the contents (I got a refund for all the damage, but not the items I ordered).

However, UPS bears a LOT of the blame.  They do not know the meaning of "Fragile", "Handle With Care", "Perishable" and most importantly "Express Delivery".  At least not around here.

I have had more damaged items delivered by them than any other carrier and it's gotten worse in the last year.

I do agree with the OP that QVC needs to look at how their shipping is handled and perhaps change carriers.

(Sorry for the long rant, but this is a very current issue for me.)

Re: Shipping Issues with Food Items

I've never had an issue with food.  I am on AD for the bagels for 2 years.  I have ordered other foods & never had trouble with the shipping time & I live where they have to be trucked up.

All I can say to anyone who's never had an issue with poor delivery of food items is count your blessings.  Not everyone is so lucky.

The hassle and disappointment when items arrive late and damaged is no fun.  (I always take photos, so it's not just my word.)

For the time being I've suspended all my A/D Just Bagels orders.  (And I live within an approximate 6-hour drive from their facility.  No excuse for it taking 5 days to get to me, nor in the damaged condition recently.)

@Venezia EVERYONE may not have experienced perfect shipping with all their food orders. However, I order a lot of food, and several orders on AD and have never had a problem with food being delivered so late that it is bad.

The only issue I had was once I was on Advanced Order and they accidentally shipped the item before the scheduled ship date by several weeks. They said to keep the items and set me up for my scheduled delivery at a later date. No exra charge to me.

QVC is very good at refunding your money. I believe the majority of food orders are shipped on schedule and received in a reasonable amount of time. This has been my personal experience and all the others in my family that place food orders.

Re: Shipping Issues with Food Items

In over 30 years of shopping with QVC, that's one thing I've never ordered....food.

After reading this thread, I think I'm glad!

Re: Shipping Issues with Food Items

@cjm61 - I'm sure many people have had good experiences with QVC's shipment of food items.  In the past, mine has also been fine for the most part.  And, yes, QVC is very good about issuing refunds.

But when you want the food you ordered, it's still disappointing and I also hate the waste of food.  Plus, you have the issue of disposing of it; not always nice.

I did once (years ago) get a shipment of chicken breasts (forget the company name but they're still around) - at least that's what it was supposed to be.  When I opened the styrofoam box, I couldn't believe what I saw.  No packaged chicken breasts; just a pile of what appeared to be scrap pieces that were surely being discarded during processing.  Someone must've mistakenly boxed it up as a shipment.  There was no wrapping, no packs of dry ice, just the pieces thrown in the box. Nothing like rotting chicken scraps to put you off an item.  Got a refund and never ordered that again.  (And, yes, I took photos.)

It would seem some people have better luck with the carriers (and in the past I've always supported them).  However, lately the service here has been seriously lacking.  QVC should be able to take up the issue with UPS, so that all their customers have the same good experience.
