STOP taking reviews for David's cookbook!

Seriously, the 5-star reviews are pouring in from people who just love David and can't wait for this cookbook because they know it will be wonderful. They even answer the question, "Have you ordered and received this product?" with a yes (they need to make that two different questions!). I don't understand why they can't turn off the review feature until the book has been released. I know that the book will be rated 5 stars just because of the people who adore David, but if they allow REAL reviews, that is where they learn that the type was too light, which they fixed in this one. I just don't understand why this is allowed/accepted/tolerated, etc.

Agree.  But I'm sure QVC wants all the 5 star reviews and won't do anything to discourage people posting them even before they get the book.  It will ultimately boost the overall rating.

It is pretty lame to review a product you don't even have yet. People are so weird sometimes.

Re: STOP taking reviews for David's cookbook!

I wonder if people actually make anything from the cookbooks.  I used to collect them for years, but never actually got around to making anything.

The only cookbooks that I have actually used have come from churches and schools and other organizations where participants send their favorite recipes.  They are collected and published and sold to make a profit for the organization.  I have several that are well worn.  The one I posted has over 300 pages and probably a thousand recipes that are family favorites of the women who sent them in.

Do people actually think David or any other host has a test kitchen where they come up with recipes?  Mostly anything you want a recipe for is on line with many reviews for zero cost. That's probably where David's recipes come from..tweeted slightly so th don't infringe on rights.

I imagine the five star reviews mean nothing.  Many people who receive the cookbook will review and never try a recipe.

Re: STOP taking reviews for David's cookbook!

@Peaches McPheeEither weird or just skipping the details of the question, and either way, since we know they haven't touched the actual book, why would we think the review has any value?

I'm not planning to buy the book even if there are thousands of 5 stars -  I'm even suspicious on Amazon when there are thousands for a book I know the reviewers could have read.  I find the reviewers whose star rating is in one of the categories other than the most prevalent one are usually the most informative, so if there are 30,000 5's and 152 3's, I read the 3's first!

@Lisa now in AZ   I 100% agree!  The cookbook will be touted "Customer Top Rated" even before it's published!

I am not at all knocking David's cookbook.  I am just so thoroughly frustrated that QVC allows these non-review reviews.  These types of reviews are all over their website in all kinds of products.  HSN won't accept a review unless their system recognizes that you received the item at least 5 days prior your review.  How hard can that be?

I agree, not only David's book but Homeworx candles and VPH items.  They need to turn off the review option until after shipments go out.

I can't imagine what benefit QVC gets from reviews from people who haven't even bought (or been gifted) the item. Makes absolutely zero sense!

@Lisa now in AZ I would post this on David's FB page, or QVC FB page.

**It is also irritating when QVC deletes all reviews on clearance items.

Re: STOP taking reviews for David's cookbook!

Remember - it IS QVC that posts the before released cookbook.  We simply SUBMIT our comments - WE can not actually post directly to the product page.  Q can either post what we submit.....or refuse it.

And yes - Q removes Reviews for certain products that have terrible Reviews.......  they want us to bite and buy.
