Re: QVC in the past vs QVC today

[ Edited ]

I think I enjoyed the beginnings of QVC better.  It was a different time. We had moved to a smaller town.  The nearest  mall or store besides KMart and OSH was 30 miles away. It was 1987, there was no internet, social media. Nothing but TV, and Radio.  Cable tv was just getting big!!!  QVC offered so many items unavailable here without traveling.  And some things were just unique. They had excellent jewelry, sweaters, and a few celebrity venndors came in and sort of legitimized the stigma of shopping on tv.  lol. I could get Holiday shopping easily while taking care of my new granddaughter.  I enjoyed it. Also, the hosts weren't so easy to talk about their lives and issues.  But around 2000 and after, the internet was becoming more available.  By 2006 or so we were able to shop anywhere , anytime online.  QVC became less unique. I quit watching in 2003, I didn't like some of the wild vendors and such. I still shop here online, but not too much as most of the stuff is available everywhere, and I don't care for the clothing. My tastes just changed.  But I do like the jewelry and the sketchers!!!

Of course we can't go back to how "it used to be."

My problem is, why can't the Q see that about 7-10 day shipping.

@countrygal

I was also there!  I had such fun watching the hosts!  And a lot of the shows - they had sets designed and the hosts would dress up.  I understand it's a different time now.  They are trying to appeal to a younger generation, also.  A lot of the older products and things which we enjoyed and watched I don't think are even available any more.  I used to watch a lot even when I had no use for the items presented, but it was pleasant and enjoyable.  I did really like so many of the original hosts.  I guess its like everything  - things changes and move on.  At least we did know what it was like!  I even remember when I used to be able to afford buying a few pieces of silver jewelry or gold or gem stones once in awhile.  But this is not their fault. Prices of everything - every place  - are so high in this day and age!

I agree 100 %. We don't need 2 or 3 people to sell a product. They had good quality in the past and great shipping times. I remember when you had a few minutes to decide on an item. Now some changes are good but the hosts aren't really trained like they used to be. They are silly and don't give good info. I never sent items back in the past, but now some things are just junk.

And they used to dress so nicely. Now they come out looking like they getting ready to go out and wash the car.  And one looks like a clown.

@Pook Agree. Remember Capodimonte? LOL. I recall seeing Mike Rowe on The Tonight Show and they showed a video of him selling it on Q. He said he always hated selling that junk! It was hilarious.

@raspberrygal   lol, Mike Rowe!!!  I remember one night it was late, he was selling a necklace pendant.   He went on about it, then he looked up and said, I can't believe I'm selling this stuff, or something to that effect.  It was so funny.  He wasn't on too long after that.  He was always on very late night usually, when I didn't watch.  He was sure funny, and easy on the eyes

Re: QVC in the past vs QVC today

everything was different back then. When I found QVC in 1987, there was no internet, cell phones, faxes, no tech media of any kind that was available to average person.   Shoot cable tv was still young , and we still wrote checks and didn't use ATMs like now a days  many of us, lived far from malls, or big shopping.  We had paper catalogues, we had to phone order in, Pretty remedial, compared to now.  In our town, many shops were closed on Sunday, and limited hours at night. QVC, brought so many items into our home that were not available to me.  They had assortment of sizes and colors which I loved.  Used to love the appliqués sweaters they had in early 1990's. They weren't on internet, so you had to order then and there, or it was gone. Fast forward to today.  Not much we can't buy, 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week...anywhere in the world. .  If it's out there, we've seen it!  prices are very competitive. We live in a world of instant gratification, and are spoiled by  convenience. QVC no longer has the leg up in the industry. So much competition.  Things have changed.  It's kind of like our old cells phones, dial up phones, we are evolving.... we just don't know what will be next.
