QVC - a programming explanation?

I remember hearing of a former company I worked for was making itself so unattractive because it was fearful of a takeover by a rival company. That said, maybe QVC is making itself so unattractive to either prevent a takeover or to run the business into the ground so they could write the whole thing off as a business loss? Either way they are certainly not winning any friends with their programming lineup.

???????? REALLY????????? I know they have alot of repeat shows, but when they do, I just do not watch. I do not roam around Target everyday for the same reason, same aisle, same things, day after day, gets boring real quick. Maybe only watch once every couple months, things will seem new to you.

I go to Walmart a lot. Many times it's so predictable there because of the sameness of the merchandise but I know when there is a new product Walmart gets it first so that is the best reason I have to return to Walmart, aside from buying groceries there, to catch up on new products. They have the largest customer base so lots of companies clamor to introduce their new products there.

Re: QVC - a programming explanation?

Neither Target nor Walmart are home shopping channels that air 24/7 television programming and yet choose to repeat the same stuff more times than not. I agree with you OP. Whatever their reason, it makes for lame, lame programming that I am barely watching at all anymore. Regardless of their 'business plan' they desperately need to program more variety.

newlook

the hostile takeover is going on at ShopHQ (formerly Shop NBC).....as for QVC, we can only wish and hope that someone would take over QVC then perhaps we could actually get more variety in the programming and products

Re: QVC - a programming explanation?

Regardless of the explanation, it's lame. Very, very lame.

And the 'formula' is ludicrous.

The only thing I've watched this weekend was the two hour Bixby show and instead of making it a two and half hour show and cutting back on a half hour of Kindle or the kitchen, they tried to squeeze too much in, so that essentially Barbara and her rather distinctive jewelry designs were more or less given the bum's rush... I mean really, they program her once in a blue moon and meanwhile 'the kitchen' is on for hours and hours each week, often showing the same tired products, while tablets and e-readers are also scheduled ad nauseum. It seems they just CANNOT bring themselves to deviate from their trite little formula.

Oh, and as soon as Bixby was done and Rick showed up with that Kindle, off it went.

Re: QVC - a programming explanation?

I don't even turn the channel on My TV to QVC anymore, that stopped about a month ago, I'm sticking to the .com to see if anything new comes in..I won't even bother to watch anymore until they make some major changes..It's kind of sad really, that use to be My constant background company but now It's so annoying I just can't do it.

Re: QVC - a programming explanation?

Interesting point. Use to get excited over TSV's, but if I see how many more???? shows of Ortho-heel, Temptations, Clarks. Certain brands are being over-exposed. Well I'm sure there are more, but just can't think of them off the top of my head. Upset to see Temptation brand expanding out, because I don't want the Q eliminating Lock and Locks, like they did Polish Stoneware. Sure there is a price point for all products, but Quality? IMHO I'd need 10 sets of Temptations to meet the quality of one piece of Polish Stoneware. The economy has taken a big hit, and there is less discretionary spending, and I"m sure QVC has felt that impact. But I want quality. Even if I can only afford ONE piece. No more interest in resin filled, or hollow gold jewelry. I haven't watched from the start, but have since about 1998, and I'm losing faith. Sad. Glad I got that off my chest.

Spurt, what hostile takeover at ShopHQ? I thought they just changed their name. Your business posts are usually right on.

Re: QVC - a programming explanation?

I've never heard of a company trying to make themselves unatttractive to avoid a takeover. Companies, especially publicly held ones, have a responsibility to their shareholders and responsible corporate leaders don't do things that will hurt the company.

QVC is 100% owned by a company called Liberty Interactive Corp. so I don't think there is any takeover in the works. That same company also owns about 34% of HSN.
