First of all, I wanted to let you all know that the current moderators have no business moderating any kind of message boards which allow topics that include issues that face the LGBT community or issues like HIV and HIV prevention.  These are not taboo issues, or issues that are disallowed for discussion.  In fact, as long as the LGBT community is targeted in a negative way, or the HIV issue is discussed in an unintelligent, ignorant way, the moderators seem to be all for the contributors continuing their discussions.  If you are going to let these discussions continue, then the moderators should have sensitivity training.  I have seen comments made toward the LGBT community that, were they made toward the black community, would have been the equivalent of the grossest form of racism.

Last night, in a thread in the Community Chat, I made a statement about HIV transmission that was based on the results of a medical study.  I was attacked, called names, and told that my assertion was wrong.  I was so taken back by this individual's response, that I asked her to stay away from me, and provided a note for others to check out studies which proved my response. Was the thread removed at this point?  NO.  It continued with her launching more personal atacks on me to a point where, for the sake of what is right, I needed to respond to clarify and provide the information needed.  I did so in a way that was intelligent, pointed, and proved, by posting links to medical data, that everything I said in my original post was true. Was the thread removed at this point? You bet it was.

Shame on you, moderators.  Shame on QVC, a company that promotes the perpetuation of stupidity and hatred, and shame on the contributors who have nothing better to do than sit around spewing ignorance, bigotry, and personal attacks.  This system is broken.  I am constantly seeing attacks being made, yet those attacks are NEVER removed.  It is the people who respond to those attacks who are removed.  People who defend themselves should not be removed.  You are perpetuating these attacks by not rooting out the problem, and as an effect, you are promoting hatred.

Peter, you've been here long enough to know that it's a subject that is volatile.   This is not a very good place to solve ignorance.

@PeterDM, I haven't read the thread that you are referring to, so I'm ill equipped to really comment on it.

That said, from a general perspective, I would be horrified to read posts in any thread that targeted the LGBT community in a negative way.

I would also expect any AIDS discussion to be continued in a respectful manner.

@debic Oh, I wasn't trying to solve ignorance.  I am just saying that allowing people to be ignorant but eliminating people who confront it seems worrisome.

@PeterDM  You realize this is a shopping channel BB?   People here are offended by bacon.    Not too many people are looking to be educated and trying is a waste here.

@debic Again, I wasn't trying to educate people.  Please read my first post below.  Yes, it's a shopping channel bulletin board, but other things, aside from shopping, are being discussed.  That doesn't mean people should be targets for harassment, regardless of the subject matter.

This is a SHOPPING CHANEL bulletin board.  there must be more appropriate places to chat about HIV and transgenderal topices than with QVC.  In my opinion, you picked a controversial topic, you knew it, and did it anyway.  What did you expect?  Want to chat about knee replacement - totally different.
