Well it's a darn shame that this is considered so impossible to do.

I guess at age 78 I still have faith in human beings being civil to each other.  I watch CNN every day and the pundits discuss this race without insulting each other.  I guess I thought it was possible to do that here.

And anyone "not interested" would certainly not have to join in the conversation.

Anyway, dead in the water before it had a chance to float, I guess.

This would do nothing more than be a giant headache for the mods.   24/7 babysitting.  I don't think that's in most mods job description.

This is not CNN.

The difference is that the people you see on CNN are mature, intelligent adults.

And most of them are probably following a script.

Sadly, too many people become too angry when debating those who disagree with them...and I don't just mean the candidates running for president of the U.S.  It's sad that with the death of Justice Scalia, political commentators are noting how he and Justice GInsburg could not have disagreed more but were good friends nevertheless, as if that were a heavenly miracle. One of my dearest friends is the Justice Scalia to my Justice Ginsburg. We agree to disagree, without being disagreeable, and we show respect for each other. I think we've both learned and benefited from the experience. Congress could learn from such experiences but they won't listen to anyone else but themselves.

Our country is headed for big trouble, in my opinion, because of the low-level, high-volume bickering that goes on in politics these days. When there's a refusal to compromise, nothing gets done, nothing is accomplished. It seems that getting the last word in has become more important than the content of that word. We cannot go on this way. As far as this topic is concerned, it will probably wind up just as governmental accomplishment will...zappend to oblivion.

As usual Vivian, a voice of common sense.  Thank you.  No one believes in compromise anymore.  It's tragic.

I vote a big, fat NO   on that idea.

There are PLENTY of other forums out there if one wants to have a political discussion.

No reason to pollute this place with that stuff here.

I'm glad you posted that, @proudlyfromNJ.  I was just going to say...  this never has been (since I joined in 2010) a forum that was designed for political discussions.  I doubt it will become that, so trying to make it that way is fruitless.   There are plenty of other sites for political discussions, in all fairness.  I think people who never have moderated a forum don't realize the headaches involved, especially when the forum represents a major company.

I would have to vote no because it would bring out the worst in people.  I prefer to like all of you and have you like me.

I remember how ugly this forum became in 2008 when President Obama first ran for office. New posters came out of the woodwork to post very hateful comments. So I am defintely against a political forum.
