Especially when you are coughing repeatedly, a tissue would be appropriate.

One's hand is not a substitute for a tissue. If they can keep a glass of water on set for a discrete sip by the host, they can add a tissue box. Or the host could take an allergy pill.

As a severe allergy sufferer, I'd like to state that coughing and runny noses can suddenly appear when you feel just fine.  I usually have Kleenex and Ricola cough drops available at all times, both at home and out in public.

I think the hand wipe across the nose has become a bad habit for one host. I would think if they actually had a cold or allergies they would be prepared. Many time hosts have appeared on air with colds and have dealt with it discreetly.
