These things are popping up all over late night TV but for $19.95, I'd seriously question their effectiveness. How are you going to know if such a cheap device will actually sanitize? Quite a leap of faith on the part of the consumer.

I would never trust something like this. Of all the things I would waste my money on for me this is not one of them.

Doubt if such an item would get past the Q's legal department

The main warnings seem about skin, but I would wonder about eyes. No way do I want one.

I haven't seen those but I did see Jane T. present an item that made me curious. It was a personal size air purifier. She mentioned wanting her daughter in NY to carry it with her on the subway. I immediately thought it would be great for a desk for those working in the office again. I know nothing is 100 percent guaranteed to work but I was interested enough to check it out. I had a gift card to use from Apple dot com and ended up getting mine there so I could get rid of the gift card. It's made by Wynd and after I'm allowed to go back to work, I will definitely be bringing it to the office and placing it near me. It's about the size of a water bottle.

They already have, or is it HSN, that Raycop UV sanitizing vacuum, and UV is shown to work. However, I saw a large wand at Costco many years ago and the thing that was off-putting to me was that you had to hold the wand over each area for several seconds. So, this idea of just waving it over a surface and it kills everything is just selling to people's fears. Same thing with the Raycop. They just show you gliding that thing over the item rather than holding it over each area. So, it's really just acting like a fabric vacuum which I guess is a good thing too, but it's not killing anything.
From an article in Science Daily: And while practical, large-scale efficacy against the spread of SARS-CoV-2 has yet to be shown. UV light shows a lot of promise: SSLEEC member company Seoul Semiconductor in early April reported a "99.9% sterilization of coronavirus (COVID-19) in 30 seconds" with their UV LED products.
So, could you imagine holding a device over each particular area that a wand would cover for 30 seconds. How long would it take you to sanitize a countertop? I think that's also how the telephone sanitizers work. You sanitize one side at a time for 30 seconds each.
