My thoughts today on the "New" forums......

The forums did need updating, but in my opinion, this was too much all at once. While my grandchildren would probably have been able to figure out all the changes with no problem, many of us are not computer savvy. I'm sure with trial and error most will get through this, but I feel so sorry for those on long time threads, like Widows, who come daily for support and now are lost.....

I totally agree with you.  This up date only serves to make things more difficult for those of us who grew up without computers and electronic gadgets!!!!!!!  I have searched for a very long time for a forum or thread or whatever you call it that I went to several times a day.  I cannot find it anywhere.  So, to the brilliant QVC techies who hatched this plan.....th a nod for taking away something that I used to enjoy!

I am picking it up pretty quickly.  I feel bad for those of you that aren't.  Just be patient and I am sure that before you know it, you will probably like this new setup better than the old.

I won't quit using this forum like I have seen several of you say, because it is a fun place to come, and I do enjoy it.

Re: My thoughts today on the "New" forums......

I'm picking it up fairly easily too, but that's not what's making me mad.....  we shouldn't HAVE to!

The point of revamping a website, especially the forum aspect is to create a user friendly forum. That's a given or what's the point (unless they WANT us to leave).... which I've been giving serious thought to.

What they've created is NOT user friendly.  OH, we'll catch on to it eventually, but the ease of use is gone and on top of it all..... it looks ridiculous.  You can no longer peruse 30 subjects at a glance (and YES Q, most of us are able to do that!!!).

But the Q isn't alone in this.  I've been on some forums for years and eBay just revamped theirs a while ago and it's hideous, very poor in ease of use.

We may stay, we may "get used to it" but we won't like it and it will continually remind us of the Q's ineptness.

Re: My thoughts today on the "New" forums......

They definitely weren't thinking of their audience....most, not all, are older, retired, stay at home ladies. Why make it so difficult to find old threads and current discussions. To just change the format pretty much entirely does make you wonder what exactly their purpose was. I've been on here off and on since they opened up this morning. It is beginning to become more clear. I agree with the above post, Q4U, we shouldn't have to be going through all this. And, No, I'm not ready to say I like it......

In addition to the absence of subcategories, the thing that's bothering me the most is that I can't display the list of topics (used to be known as threads) by the time of the most recent RESPONSE.  I can display "most recent topics" on top, but that appears to use the topic creation time, not the most recent response.  I don't care when a topic was created.  I want to order the list according to the time of the LAST RESPONSE to all topics.

Because it puts topics on top, I don't see when a thread I'm interested in has a new response if more topics have been created since the last response.

I discovered you can view the topics by post, but that doesn't meet ny need either.   That shows ALL most recent posts, not just the most recent post per topic.   So a topic that's getting lots of responses is shown over and over.

Because I can't order the topic list by most recent last response I won't be able to follow favorite threads, some of which were created long ago.   Hence, the forum is of limited utility for me.

Re: My thoughts today on the "New" forums......

As I've stated several times today on many posts.....hate this whole new forum totally unfriendly and not fun! Use to love coming here several tis a day and was able to find and post with no problem or second thought, now I have no idea what is going on and don't feel I am going to either any time soon if this forum stays this way. No sub titles no recent threads just a couple then Only old posts from last month and way older.' If you are going to make things better then do it ! If not thenbetter yet give us back the old forum. That's my 2 cents.

I agree.  Too much at once!  I post on several different forums, and this is by far the most confusing to navigate.  With all the options (bold, font, etc),, the forums are going to end up looking like a mess.  Totally unnecessary, IMO.  Not to mention all the other bells & whistles.

And where is the help? Something as simple as wanting to change my email address shouldn't be that difficult to figure out.  There should be some kind of tutorial that explains a lot of the basics.  The info we were given last week did not in any way indicate that we wouldn't be able to get answers to simple questions.

I'm frustrated, and really not happy that I can't change my email address.  If I can't figure it out, I'm gone.

@Q4u

You can set your # of threads you see on a page to a certain amount other than the default #; same with the # of post replies to a particular thread.

Go to your name and a drop down menu appears in upper right hand corner . Go to My Settings, when that window opens, go to Preferences, then on the left side you will see Topic Layout. Click on that and you will see on the right hand side:

Topic Layout Settings

List by Topics: Sorting order within topics
  • Oldest first
  • Newest first
  • Use default (Newest first)
Posts per page

Posts per topic

You can put the # of posts into that box and do the same with posts per topic/thread. Don't forget to hit save.

If you have been reading this so far, you can see that the default box is checked off so 'newest' thread responses appear at the top of the page for you to read.
