Many many years ago, Bob Bowersox was on and doing a jewelry show. He explained he had a cut on his finger, and would be wearing white gloves while on air. This was when QVC was professional.

I think it's more noticeable if you have HD and you have a large screen tv.
I no longer get QVC in HD (mercifully), so I don't notice these details on my 42" tv.

And along the same lines, my personal preference would be for those who are presenting jewelry to wear "subdued" polish. I find garish polish very distracting. I can't recall every seeing an HSN host wearing bright-colored polish when presenting jewelry. JMHO.

Manicured nails for close ups?
Speech classes for diction?
Not using abbreviated or slang words?
Is there any end to the demands from the viewing audience??

OK, now that is just disgusting. I have never noticed WP doing this, but then I can never watch him for long periods of time. Something about him starts to grate my nerves after a very short period of time.

I agree HD TV brings minor imperfections to light, and makes it more glaringly obvious.

I would think that would be even more reason to be on top of things like this.....

Shut the front door and groom those freakin' nails! Sorry, couldn't resist.

I think most of the hosts have very well-groomed nails. I'm always amazed when one of the hosts will apologize for having a chip in their polish when I can't even see it! I did notice the other night a host had on bright yellow nail polish. That was very distracting! (And NOT pretty, in MY opinion!)

Yes, and even more so during jewelry shows, with the extreme close-ups. That's why l think that during those presentations, hosts should have their nails trimmed short, with clear or nude polish. And the fake nails look even more fake when "under a microscope."
