My Post RE: Profiles in Google Search
Kayai_QVC, Eva-QVC : Thank You for Your Messages on the Post I made Monday
For a long-time user like myself who has been reading and posting on these boards for many despite my registration date, my feeling is the tone you used regarding closinng my thread was a smidge negative and heavy-handed but i do understand the tone used was one of URGENCY
That was the purpose of my post - to convey URGENCY
My post was NOT intended to "Create Confusion" to all Regarding our Personal Information !
How were some of us to know what to do next? Where would we look? We see a bunch of menu choices, not all would go to the Welcome pages - not for any reason other than - well - we just want to get online, see who is on, and post! This is a Community as you can see, lots of us post together on many topics!
i guess i was the whistleblower here but i feel it needed to be addressed. I have posted suggestions here before but with this i jumped right in.
Say, for example, a user spends a lot of time posting in Beauty. This was not unusual before or now. There may be no discussion at all in that one forum regarding privacy. Not all users completely understand what to do about this! Not all users knew how to get to preferences! Not all users are going to the Welcome page when we have been posting for years!
I posted to let others know some of their information was visible and in all honesty, how does one really know if their email is showing? or other personal details when online. I had to go to another device to double check to see what is visible.
In the old forums our posts could be searched but now we have Profile Pages that come up! AND the Q did encouraged us to post our FACES!!! NOT a good idea considering and my image STILL shows up in a search.
Truthfully, in my estimation, QVC did not do the best job in IMMEDIATELY - AT THE TIME OF CHANGEOVER, conveying to us how our privacy is used or shared!
Now it seems the Q IS doing a better job of highlighting the procedure for privacy and settings to users. Why are these procedures not posted as a "Sticky" on each forum at the top ? Just a thought
All of us come from different places as far as computer use and internet experience. One cannot develop a forum and assume that all are tech-savvy and understand some information can be shared becuase we are on a public site. But even FB users can set their parameters!
We all logged in the first day or third day our sometime thereafter and started posting because why would any of us believe there was a paradigm shift making more details of our profiles visible! Many have been on some form of these boards for close to 20 years.
As it is I see now there has just been placed the Q disclaimer/legal blurb under the link to my profile in one search engine :
This is the same verbiage that is listed at the bottom of these page all grayed out in fine print! : Does the "third-part linked site" refer to the URL for these forums?
QVC is not responsible for the availability, content, security, policies, or practices of the above referenced third-party linked sites, nor liable for statements, claims, opinions, or representations contained therein. QVC's Privacy Statement does not apply to these third-party web sites.
What we have here are multiple growing pains and it may get sorted out - however - there should not have ever been a question of compromisng our own exposure. - and becuase it appears we do have exposure, ensure that this fact was communicated effectively and the path to minimize most exposure was prioritized from day one.
THANK YOU QVC Mods for updating the information to help us do that,

Any information you have ever posted on this forum, or any other forum, is available for others to see. this is nothing new. The only time you are private on the internet is when you are in a secure website (htpps) And even this secure stuff is broken into on a regular basis. (Target comes to mind).
The internet is NOT private. Never has been, never will be. If people want to find out about you and your goings-on, they can. Just takes a little bit of knowledge and time.

Yes. Yes. I am aware. This has been stated and yes the old forums were searchable for content.
My objection is to the entire profile page being visible. Some folks do not know about this possibility. We did not have Profile Pages in the old forums.
This messgae was more to respond to the mods who may have opted to be been quicker to respond to my post.
As someone else posted recenly : An Educated Consumer is Our Best Customer"
