@febe1 wrote:Stacey Rusch is the sweet, pretty newer host. Gosh, when she comes on, I almost break my neck getting the remote to lower or change channels.
Her voice to me sounds like a Drill Sgt. giving commands.
@febe1 I like Stacey, as you appear to as well. I agree that she could soften up her way of speaking a bit.

The new Lock n' Lock lady is hard to listen to for me as well. And as nice as she seems to be, the rep for Kitchen Aid. I just change the channel. Lately the voices and the over the top antics of some of the hosts has saved me money.

Q doesn't hire professional speakers so I'm not surprised.

@mjmm I agree about the alarm sound and also her fake cackling like an old hen....love the mute button.

But the hosts *are* professional speakers — they were hired and are paid to speak.
The Q should include vocal training as part of job training for those who need it. Most of the hosts (and vendors) seem blissfully unaware of the bad habits they’ve picked up along the way. Vocal fry is ann epidemic among young women nowadays, along with the baby voices, screeching, and so forth.
They are professional only that they are paid to speak and sell. Most do not have public speaking or other speaking training.

That REALLY surprises me because in order to be a broadcast major that's the majority of every class you take. In college your required to take one public speaking course no matter your major. However, most if not all who work at the Q were former tv people. All tv people either majored in broadcast or communications.

It would surprise me if any of the hosts had a broadcast major. If you listen to them over time, you'll never hear them say they do although they give out a lot of other personal info.
My sons didn't have to take a public speaking course until they were getting their Masters degrees but even then it was mostly having to speak in front of classes. I didn't have to take a public speaking course at all but I'm older than most of the hosts.

Hey @Priss, For me it's my age and ears. A woman's high pitched, squeaky voice is hard to listen to but with two of them squeaking at the same time, and add in speed talking, It's bad on my nerves. I can only watch with the mute on. My grammer school taught speech arts as a basic subject. These women have not been taught speech arts or manners, talking over one another. A big mess!
