Re: Good grief! What year is this?

I don't watch much anymore... I find it boring and too much of the same items over and over and over again.

Judging by some of the electronics/computer questions and problems people ask/talk about on these forums, many people DO need an hour...or more...being told they are buying the latest, greatest and best electronics, and being assured that whatever they want to do, the machine of the hour will do it - just by turning it on, and voila, like magic, it knows what you want and will give it to you instantly, better and faster than anything else you could buy anywhere for twice the price.  Uh-huh.

And customers are eating it up.  QVC wouldn't be doing it if it wasn't highly profitable. They get to sell hundreds, if not 1000+, $500-800 items *per hour*, 10+ hours per day on a TSV.

Kinda scary that there are still that many people out there that clueless about computers.

I think it is a generation thing. I have taught many people in adult communities that are friends with my mother how to use computers and it was more then difficult. I think they do not have the patience for computers.

As far as I can tell, it remains 2015.

What you're seeing, in my estimation, is that Marketing has picked up on the fact that many people can't seem to detached themselves from any type of electronic device.  When this was noted some years ago, companies jumped on the bandwagon and started to not only sell, but develop new devices of every sort.  Being made in China, makes them affordable for many.

And so now we get to the nitty-gritty of your question.  What we're seeing is "infomercials" versus regularly scheduled programming.  I say this, because when presented as such, it turns on negative vibes for many.  (And they will keep this up, slam-dunking products at viewers to no end, due to stock in the warehouse.)

The only thing I can suggest is to hang in there for the sales which will occur after Christmas, then the spring product lines.  *Christmas is only 13 days away.

Now,that should be fun!

It won't matter... with respect to QVC, anyway, for some time they've been following a narrow branding path that seems to mean that every season will look pretty much like the same season looked last time around... Unfortunately, for those of us who used to enjoy this channel, this is no longer the place to come and seek variety. Many products and brands are repeated endlessly, regardless of season, and then we get that handful that are season-specific, but are also fully redundant and are repeated endlessly throughout that particular season. The bottom line for me is I've taken the oh-so sage advice of those smug few who like to think they're in the know. I no longer watch. I do wonder, though, if it's QVC's goal to turn customers off to the point that they're no longer remotely interested...

It is 2015, and the great thing about it being 2015 is that you are not being held captive to only a handful of television channels.  The great thing about 2015 is that you are currently connected to a device which can access virtually the entirety of human knowledge.  Plus, in 2015, an plethora of non-shopping opportunities exist such as readong, helping others, going for a walk, etc.

QVC is a retailer.  They sell items,  They do not exist to entertain us.  They do not exist to alleviate our boredom.  They have millions fo customers tuning in throughout the day to presentations because not everyone watches television on your schedule.

Another day, another lecture.

So true, @gardensla... But it's the same lecture... QVC writ small...

QVC doesn't know what a sale is.  Besides, after Christmas, it will be their usual "New Year, New You" drivel of exercise eqipment and nutrisystem/diet plans.  The stores will be having sales with things up to 75% off.  QVC might knock off $3 lol.
