People who store boxes of papers remind me of the hoarders that refuse to part with something for fear they will finally be presented with the oppotunity to use that one precious item.😂
That's quite a stretch of an analogy @Love to Run
We MUST save our tax documents...and doing so IN a box is nothing remotely even close to being a hoarder!!!
It is the gov't that strongly suggests you save it !!
Tax documents are not anything like what someone may save in excess. Not even close! Nothing 'precious' about tax documents.
I'm sure your DH may have staff that does all that scanning for him or is more tech savvy than some of us.
Twice we have been checked as far back as 7 years, each time and each time, no additional taxes were owed.
Excellent @Nonametoday !!
Either you or your accountant are right to the penny!! Good Job!
We have been audited here at work and it was a long, detailed process. We also owed nothing.....but glad we had everything we needed.

I pay online but want my paper bills. I rarely use email (hate all the 1000's of spam every month) so how do you know when bills are due? Every couple months I go into email and erase at least 3000-4000. Within a week there another 1000 junks. I can't be botherred to look for the one or 2 bills in this mess.

DH and I haven't gotten a paper bill or written a check literally in decades with never a problem. I don't understand the hesitation. So much simpler and easier especially setting up autopay for utilities.
Where do you get billing statements? I hate email so much I only look at it a couple times a year and then erase everything to clear out all the junk. Don't read any of it.

I have to disagree with you regarding the "checks aren't free". We get ours free through our credit union and being the age of 65. We use our paper checks at Walmart and Brookshires. The other bills I pay by phone....
I have to disagree with you. Banks who issue checks, charge you. It's not cheap either. Outrageous fee. Some companies I find it better to pay using paper checks.
No charges for my checks but I only write 1-2 every couple months. I use onloine banking to pay bill but I want paper bill since I rarely open the hated email.

I am so ****** that Synchrony bank will be charging $1.99 for customers to pay their own balances. Wake up QVC and HSN you are going to lose this good paying customer. This is ridiculous. With such a busy life, it's easier for your customers to receive reminder paper bills. I will be closing my accounts.
Not being forced into anything. But you can certainly make a choice.
Those of us who use electronic statements are appreciative that we are not footing any part of the expense for those who opt for paper notifications.
Paper statements in business probably cost them less than 5 cents. Its the accounting for the billing that costs and this is same for paperless and paper.

And what do people who don't have computer or know how to use one do? They have bills that need to be paid and a notice of when due.

I'm sorry that you don't believe me....Ours are free at our credit union but you have to be 65 years old...Now, they would charge us if we were under 65.
Yes, credit union. But as you know banks charge for everything & not everyone has a credit union.
I use BAC and have not paid any fees for anything in last 30 yrs. Free checks and check processing. I have always maintained a balance higher than their minimum for the new fees.

Good grief, I can't believe you're serious.
First, no one is "forcing" you to do anything. You still decide how you want to receive statements. No one is preventing you from printing your online statement every month. No biggie.
Second, QVC & HSN do not make Synchrony bank's rules and decisions.
Third, CHECK FRAUD is at an all time high. Try to keep up.
Fourth, I won't add the link to betterreport dot com, but here's a small portion of the article You Need To Stop Writing Checks - Here's Why.
Writing physical checks is clunky and inconvenient at best — and can be dangerous at worst. What used to be an easy way to pay bills and send birthday gifts is now a potential gold mine for scammers and thieves to steal information. Despite the steep decline in check usage, thousands of check fraud cases are reported annually. But there are several ways to protect yourself — and your bank account — from financial fraud. And the best way to start is to stop writing checks altogether.

The No. 1 Cause of Check Fraud
One of the most significant exposures to check fraud is sending checks through the mail. Even though they require a key to open, the iconic blue USPS collection boxes aren’t as secure as they seem. Check fraud criminals can open the boxes and “wash” any checks they find in a process where the monetary amount is erased using a solution such asnail polish remover. With the original signature left intact, scammers can write a higher monetary amount and deposit the check themselves — and since they use fake accounts created under assumed names, it can be challenging to track down stolen money once you realize it’s gone.
If you become a victim of check fraud, call your bank ASAP. The bank will require you to file a claim, which in many cases takes up to 30 days for a resolution, and in some cases, you may need to file a criminal claim with the police.
Pay all bills online except for my lawn care person. He will only accept cash or paper checks. This is only 1 check / month handed to him after job. No mailing of any checks for at least 10 years. But I want my bills as paper copy since I hardly ever open email and forget about it for months at a time. Hate email and swore when I retired I would not use.

If anything happens to me and all bills are electronic good luck to the entities getting paid because there is no way my heirs will ever get into my computer to even know what accounts exist.
My heirs will have to jump through a plethora of hoops to get access to any of my financial information. This is by design for reasons I will not share.
BTW, my bank is a well known national bank and I do not get charged for checks although I rarely use them. I do have to pay a fee if I want copies of the paid checks.
I have all my passwords written down for my kids. They also have been designated as my legacy holders on my iPhone so they can access everything. They have been given my safe code as well.
Well what do those do who have no children/siblings. Wouldn't trust my distant relatives with this info.
