As Is Items quality, or lack thereof

QVC needs to inspect items that are customer returns to make sure they are not damaged before repackaging them and selling them As Is. My sister bought a Prepology air fryer As Is, and it came with the handle broken off. She got a replacement today, only to find that the basket is bent and the fryer has gaps between the top and bottom parts!

If they will only inspect the items, they will save a lot of money and grief on both ends.

@LRap.  8ve gotten a ton of customer returns and many "as is", mostly clothing.  I've never received anything that wasn't in pristine condition.

I would not buy a used kitchen appliance.  Just don't like the idea of cooking food in something someone else has used.

I have never had any real problems. Most items are like new at a usually great deal. As Is is described as possible returns. If anybody has an aversion to purchasing a returned item then I suggest not buying As Is.

In addition, QVC offers a full refund, including shipping, should the item be defective. I have bought hundreds of items AS Is and will continue doing so.

Re: As Is Items quality, or lack thereof

I've also bought probably hundreds of "As Is" items over the years and I honestly can't remember having to return anything.  Maybe one, but not sure?

I recently bought the Bethlehem Lights Micro-LED tree, that was a TSV (and sold out before I could order).  I got it for $225 (it's now reduced to $150), instead of the nearly $500 price tag.  It arrived brand new.  Everything still in it's original wrapping.  The tree is perfect and beautiful.

I've gotten Martha Stewart jeans for less than $5 a pair (brand new); Alegria shoes for $15 (brand new).

Most recently, Cougar boots for $39 (brand new, tags still on them).  To me, it's worth a try for the savings.

NEVER had a challenge with "as is".  Everything has been in perfect condition inside a sealed inner plastic bag...

Re: As Is Items quality, or lack thereof

Funny you should post this @LRap

My friends order a LOT of As Is with no issues.

I ordered one VPH thing a long time ago....it died at the 31st day....of course.

I Just tried again now.  I ordered the As Is Women's Sox Christmas Advent Calendar.  A694931

You know what they sent me?  A plastic bag of sox!  NO box/advent Calendar at all!  Missing an important component of the purchase, ya think???

Now I have read the fine print about returns/samples etc....but Come ON!

Totally unacceptable IMHO.  I Will expect a full refund with all my shipping refunded...and NO label fee.

NO more As Is for me.  Skunked me twice.

Re: As Is Items quality, or lack thereof

I have in the past purchased quite a bit of as is items, only clothing and most came perfectly packaged and new.  This last 2 months have been a different story with all my orders.  I bought 7 Logo Lori Goldstein as is items and out of those, one top had a hole in it, and another there was a tank inside a package instead of the matching cardigan.  I returned the top with the hole in it, but kept the tank and reordered a cardigan at a clearance price.  Becase these were as is, I was ok with it.

More annoying I ordered a Logo Smiley World fur coat at a sale price and it arrived with a tear in the lining and the little metal chain nameplate inside the neck was hanging.  I returned it.  I also ordered Logo satin jogger at a LTS and it arrived with one leg sewn in a twisted manner, I also returned those.

I would buy as is again for sure and if there were problems, I would return.

@Venezia The tree is just a bit smaller than I like but I think I'm going to give it a try.  I can always have DH make something to give it a boost under the tree.  It is a great price and I was thinking of replacing our old tree next year.

The current "as is" price is too good to let go.  We will try it out first just in case it doesn't work.

Re: As Is Items quality, or lack thereof

I've purchased quite a few "as is" items in multiple categories over the years, and in general, I've encountered very few issues. As others have noted, there are many times when I've received what is clearly a brand new item, so I would guess they were just overstocked items or items returned by customers that for some reason simply didn't qualify as still being in new enough condition to send out as a regular order.

However, I've stopped buying "as is" clothing because my scent sensitivities can't take the odors that people leave on clothes when they try them on (or even wear them for awhile before returning them). And it is often impossible to know whether washing an item would get rid of the smell. But all that said, I've also ordered new clothing items and still ended up receiving stinky returns instead, so I can't totally blame the "as is" designation for the way QVC handles clothing inventory.

Last year, I purchased five different sets of Valerie's ribbed mercury glass hurricanes "as is" because they were half the price of the new ones and lots of color options were available. Every set was perfect. You could tell that the light units in some had been tested, but others seemed brand new. Such a bargain! (And they're still available; I'm constantly convincing myself that I don't need to stock up on more for gifts.)

But one of the strangest "as is" items I've received was a different Valerie hurricane, the lovely celebration/fireworks version. The battery door on the light unit was slightly dented and broken, as if someone couldn't get it open, and the light strand was torn into pieces in all directions—there were about seven or eight little pieces of light strand scattered throughout the packaging. I am guessing that a customer simply couldn't figure out how to uncoil the strand, but it was a mess and definitely unusable. Clearly, nobody really inspected this item before putting it back into circulation!

And I guess I should also mention that out of the three times I've received the wrong item from QVC, two of them were incorrectly packaged "as is" items. (The third was a pair of pants that was sent to my address rather than the actual buyer's by mistake.) Overall, though, I continue to enjoy the great deals that are often available in the "as is" category and don't worry about potential issues—QVC is great with returns.

@haddon9 - I haven't checked in the last few days, but they did have the other sizes of that tree available in "As Is" (maybe not all 3 choices though).

I love my 5' tree.  It's just the right size for us and a full tree (not slimline).

I hope you have good luck with it!

(ETA:  I see the 7-foot tree has all 3 choices; the 8.5-foot has 2.  Someone has posted there might be free shipping tomorrow, so maybe wait to see?  It would save $20, if you haven't already ordered.)
