11.11 SINGLES DAY? ON VETERANS DAY????

BAD QVC.  Whoever decided to smear up Veteran's Day with a campaign called "singles day 11.11" ?  This is highly inappropriate.  IT IS VETERAN'S DAY!  No silly campaign "stuff".   Sales are fine, don't mess with it.  You are renaming  a very serious American holiday & I don't appreciate it!

They aren't renaming Veterans Day. Singles Day has been popular in China for many years now and has been branching out to other countries. China chose 11/11 as Singles Day because it's represented by 4 1s. My page right now says Shop Our Veterans Day Clearance, so QVC has not renamed anything.

But if you want to talk outrage, why is it that Singles Day bothers you, but you didn't mention the fact Veterans Day has become another sale where many stores are shilling mattresses and appliances and not mentioning Veterans at all. That's a much bigger tarnish of Veterans Day in my eyes.

I totally agree. It's a slap in the face to our brave veterans, when we should be thanking them for their service.

Yeah, it's weird.  It started as a Chinese holiday, and I don't see why we would start "observing" it knowing that it falls on the same day as Veteran's Day.  It seems tacky in general, but more tacky that it's being used as a second way to market sales when it's tacky enough that businesses use Veteran's day alone to market their goods.

Since I was wrong about Q using this as a sales tactic. (I never go to the homepage)   Anything to make a sale.

Re: 11.11 SINGLES DAY? ON VETERANS DAY????

Doesn't bother me at all.

We continue to be free to honor the vets who have worked and continue to work to allow us to be free to celebrate what we want when we want.

It's likely I could ahve gone all through this day and had no idea about any other use of the day, but life doesn't stop because it's 11/11 or 9/11 or 12/7 or any other day. After a while the names are meaningless in  and of themselves.  Near my home is an extremely busy road named in honor of veterans, but the only thing i ever hear about are the ugly traffic james on that rtoad.  Some honor!  Yet if anyone ever proposed changing the name -  it just couldn't happen!

The Chinese, through their version of Amazon, sell three times more merchandise on this day than is sold in the U.S. on cyber Monday...billions of $$$$.  I wouldn't be surprised to see US merchants jump on the bandwagon.
