By territory, do you mean job classification?  If not, then what do you mean?

I don't watch sports so I don't know much about who's really good at commentating. I think the women commentators that show up on the field or where ever all made up in a skin tight dress is really selling how she looks and not what she knows. Even if she is good, it's distracting and is that why she was hired in the first place. I think everyone should have the same opportunities, but come on this is sports not brain surgery.

It's not about the knowledge.

It's not about the 'I played the sport.'

It's not about how popular I am with the Public.

It's not about the equality of the business.

It all boils down the the technical aspect of

the TONE of a woman's voice.  The higher pitch vocal

does not resonate w/ visual we see.  I could a.l.m.o.s.t.

see a woman play-by-play with baseball, since it's a 'quiet' sport.

I've listened to my sports station (avatar to the <<<left) well

over 20 years...I can't imagine a woman sports host.

Just doesn't transmit well. A woman's vocal tone is almost too 'pitchy'

for good TV/Radio.  It transcends to network news, as well.

IOW, not too many successful, long-term female broadcasters.

Someone with a broadcasting background could probably tell us why....

not a sexist thing, but a tonal issue.

Thoughts?

Not being political, but do you think this is why we will never see a woman president?

@JillyMarie

You bring up a very good point.

Maybe 5 generations from now it won't be an issue,

but today?  No doubt, it's a factor IMO.

For me, I don't think that is it.

I find them out of place and artificial.  It just seems like affirmative action - like a lawsuit will be in the offing if they don't let women do it.

They tend to be too artificially excited, as if that is what is needed.  They sometimes try to act like "one of the boys."  I think the men are uncomfortable because they don't know how to act and respond. It comes across to the viewer also.  Not one woman plays men's professional sports (baseball, football, basketball, hockey).  I know women play, but in their own gender's sports teams.  I know that not all men have played, but they don't sound artificial.

I love being a woman and have no desire to act like a guy.  There are so many choices in life for women.  Men's sports just doesn't need women.

I think there are good and bad sportscasters BOTH male and female........
