A lot of Eliott's problems are that teams are focused on stopping him to force Dak to beat them. Dak has shown that he's less reliable than Elliott at leading the Cowboys so if you're going to lose, you'll take your chances that Dak will beat you rather than Elliott. Dak's a good quarterback, but he'll make a few bone-headed throws each game. The more passes you make him throw, the more likely it is he'll make the big mistake.
The Cowboys are backing themselves into a corner by not getting a deal done with Dak. His negotiating power only grows with each passing week/month/year. If they tag him they'll have to pay him $33 million in 2020. IF they tag him again it goes up to over $40 million. HAd they signed him back at the end of the 2018 season they might have gotten him for $25-$30 million.
