Re: Week Six of the 2020 NFL Regular Season!!!

The happiest person after last night's game had to be Dak Prescott's agent. Dak's contract demands have likely grown from $40 million a year to $50 million a year based on what he saw last night. Jerry Jones may happily sign that deal if it would save the Cowboys. The pundits saying Andy Dalton was a better QB than Dak were proven wrong.

Sadly, at least for Cowboy fans, they've got bigger issues than the QB. That defense needs a lot of work. You can make a good argument that they need seven new, good quality starters on defense. And not guys who'd peaked in 2015. Cardinal receivers were blowing past the Cowboy secondary and should have had three long touchdown passes, but Andy "where's the ball" Isabella had the ball tracking skills of a blind man and blew two touchdown chances. (Truth be told a blind man may have tracked those balls better just by listening to them coming.) Suffice to say that's something the Cards need to work on. Luckily for them, they had Christan Kirk who could actually track the ball and catch it.

The Cowboys have a very winnable game this week against the WFT. A loss in that game and the season is done. No matter how bad the NFC East is overall, losing to the WFT would be the death blow to the Cowboys.

How do the Cowboys fix this mess? That's the challenge. They need a whole new defense and getting one is not easy. They're averaging giving up over 36 points per game. That's not a winnable stat. Dak was keeping them alive by scoring a gazillion points a game, but he's gone and Andy can't match that production. In a very good draft, you might get three quality starters. The Cowboys need about seven. You can get a guy or two in free agency, but they're typically damaged goods in some manner. Good teams don't generally let their best players wander off in free agency. They find a way to keep them.

What are the options? Trade for a guy or guys. The Cowboys can't really afford to give up draft picks, but they have a surplus of talent at wide receiver. They have Amari Cooper locked up as their number one receiver for the foreseeable future (5 years $100 million.) Number two Michael Gallup is signed through 2021. They have the kid in CeeDee Lamb who is a budding star and has a lot of value in the first year of his rookie deal. Trading Lamb to a team like the Jets to get back a pair of good defenders makes a certain amount of sense. The Cowboys don't generally value slot receivers all that much (Cole Beasley and Randall Cobb were both allowed to leave) so why keep Lamb if he can give you a year's head start on rebuilding the defense?

They lost four starters on defense in free agency and tried to replace them with has-beens and rookies and it's not working. They brought in a failed defensive coordinator using a failed read and react system and it's not working. They need to rebuild that defense both schematically and personnel-wise and the best time to start is now. Lamb has value and is a luxury for the Cowboys. Move him and use him to start the rebuild of the defense. (JJ won't though.)

Last night's score could have been a lot worse than the 38 points. Kyler Murray didn't play his best. Andy Isabella didn't help him any. They could have scored in the fifties without a lot of trouble. When your defense gives up 38 points to a team that was averaging 25+ going into the game, and that team left a lot of points on the field, it's not a good thing.

What will the WFT do to the Cowboys? Terry McLaurin will try to blow past the Cowboy defensive backs and he can both track and catch the deep ball. Can Kyle Allen get the ball to him? We'll have to see. He missed a few deep shots against the Giants. This Cowboy defense is very vulnerable though. It'll be an interesting game to watch.

Hey at least the Cardinals "only" scored 30 on the WFT defense....and the WFT scored 15 whole points against the Cardinals....😊

Re: Week Six of the 2020 NFL Regular Season!!!

Oh what could've been....the WFT isn't the only team that got raked after a poor performance....lets consider the QB that ALMOST was....Capt Kirk and the Vikes...(we do owe Bruce Allen a special thanks for not signing Kirk).....This is what one critic said.....

Cousins' transformation into the 2020 version of Jameis Winston is now complete. No one comes close to throwing the ball as deep as Cousins on a per-throw basis. No one signifies whether he's going to be great or terrible more transparently with his first few throws of the game. No one else is on pace for 29 TDs and 27 interceptions, nearly matching Winston's numbers from a year ago.

The Eagles are arguably the least bad of the teams in the NFC East with the best excuse for being bad. Let's look at the offensive line. We're on our third left tackle with our current starter being a former rugby player from Australia who'd never played a snap of football before joining the Eagles. We're on our third left guard with the kid now playing, Nate Herbig, being an undrafted free agent in 2019. Our center is Jason Kelce and has somehow survived the chaos around him. Our right guard is now Jamon Brown and he's the fourth guy to play that spot so far. He's a vet who's been cut several times but was signed recently as an emergency fill-in and has played badly. Our right tackle is now Brett Toth, a former Army player who's only been back with the Eagles for a week after getting cut by the Cards. He played his first-ever NFL snap this past week. Yeah. And that's not all.

Let's look at Carson Wentz's receivers. DeSean Jackson, Alshon Jeffery, first-round pick Jalen Reagor, Marquise Goodwin, Dallas Goedert, and now Zach Ertz, are, or have been all out. Wentz's best options are Travis Fulgham, who was cut by both the Lions and Packers this year, and Greg Ward, a converted QB. The starting tight end this week will be Richard Rodgers who the WFT cut this year. Running back Miles Sanders is out this week and next also at least with a bad knee. Just two of the projected eleven starters are still playing in Wentz and Kelce, and both of them are a bit dinged.

Things aren't much better on defense. Defensive tackle Malik Jackson is injured. Nearly every veteran linebacker is injured. Corner and safety each have only one starter remaining and we're three deep at the other spot. And yet, somehow, we're still competitive. It's a miracle.

Kudos to Carson Wentz and a couple of the kids in Travis Fulgham and Greg Ward. They're somehow holding things together. Jamon Brown is more trying to sack Wentz than protect him which is an issue. On one play Sunday he stopped in the middle of a play after letting his guy go, headbutting Mailata and nearly knocking him out, to adjust his gloves while Wentz was running for his life. When your right guard is so out of position that he can headbutt your left tackle it's not great. When he stops midplay to adjust his gloves while play is going on, it shows a certain lack of focus. If we had anyone else left to play, he'd likely be cut.

If you were taking bets right now on who would win the NFC East, the Eagles would probably win those bets, We're not good right now, but we're better than the rest despite playing guys who were on the street days ago. Wentz is a magician. Kudos also to Jalen Hurts and Nate Sudfeld who more or less discovered Travis Fulgham on the scout team and got him elevated to the roster. Since Fulgham had been on the scout team Wentz hadn't ever thrown to him, but the other two QBs highly recommended the kid, so Wentz trusted them and started throwing him the ball and he's looked great.

The good news for the Eagles is we should start getting some injured guys back. We're in a stretch of the schedule with winnable games (Giants, Cowboys, Giants again). We could be back to .500 at 4-4-1 in week nine and that could be good enough for a game and a half lead over the rest of the NFC East.

If the NFC East teams didn't play one another, it would be hard to find many wins for them.

If it makes you feel any better in one poll the WFT fans see the Eagles winning the NFC East despite the injuries...

Bad news for the WFT O-Line replacement guard Charles was injured and hopefully will be back after the bye week...but in the meantime.....SMH

The Eagles probably have the best overall team right now, which is kind of amazing considering everything. That Cowboys defense is just unbelievably bad. The Giants and WFT are largely lost in space. Neither of those two teams has much of anything going on right now. Yeah, as insane as it sounds, the Eagles are probably the favorite to win the NFC East. And they've won one game all year. It's that kind of a year.

There's a very good chance that the Eagles will get to 4-4-1 at week nine and should start getting some guys back. They have the Browns after that second Giants game and could win that and be 5-4-1. Then things get messy with the Seahawks, Packers, Saints, and Cards, before wrapping up with Dallas and the WFT again. A record of 7-8-1 could win the NFC East with a couple of game margin this year.

Odds are the Eagles would then face Nick Foles and the Bears in the playoffs. Talk about some good storylines in that game. I think the Seahawks made the playoffs with a 7-9 record a few years back, so things like this can happen.

One BIG problem I see with Haskins' attitude is that he is a $uckeye!  They are taught no respect there!  OSU thinks they are God's gift to the NCAA.

Tua Tagovailoa was named the Dolphins' starting QB. They must have been impressed with the short time he played. The team has a week 7 bye, so we'll have to wait another week before we see how he does.

And that Bengals/Dolphins should be a good game ---- it will be the 2 young QBs battling it out---Burrows vs Tua......
