Re: Week Seven of the 2024 NFL Regular Season!!!

[ Edited ]

I'm impressed with Russell Wilson's debut as a Steeler. He had a slow start but gained momentum later. Justin Fields proably would have done more rushing plays, but overall Wilson was effective and stepped up to lead the team. Having a stellar defense also helped. This might silence all the naysayers, at least for a while. Will there be a QB controversy in Pittsburgh?

The Jets weren't good. The hype over Davante Adams didn't work last night, although it might take time for him to fit in. Maybe Pittsburgh was too tough to handle.

Re: Week Seven of the 2024 NFL Regular Season!!!

Steelers v Jets

Where to start?

  • Beanie Bishop, cornerback.  Who? you ask.  Beanie signed as an undrafted free agent and won a spot on the roster by his great performance in preseason.  Last night Beanie picked off Aaron Rodgers twice and one of the picks was an incredible Immaculate Interception.  Beanie Baby ran it down to the 1 yard line and was knocked down by Davante Adams.
  • George Pickens.  If he lived in Gotham City he’d be known as the Juggler.  You have to see with your own eyes the catches he made last night.  George had 111 yards and a touchdown.   Incredible.  George’s ego is somewhat troubling however.  Time will tell.
  • Russell Wilson.  First game in a Steeler uniform.  Slow start even got a few boos from the stands.  Came alive and found his footing after Beanie’s first pick.  Wilson finished his start with the most passing yards in Steeler history for a quarterback’s first start.  264 yards.  Of course we’re not talking about a rookie.

Justin Fields was on the sidelines and looked really into the game.  He’s got a great attitude and knows he has a lot to learn and he can learn from Russell Wilson.  Justin can rocket the ball hard and fast and that worked in college but he needs to learn to finesse the ball.  Different situations call for passes other than rockets.

What do you think about Aaron Rodgers performance??? Is it time for him to retire?? The Jets had injuries but they also looked ill prepared and didn't seem to make some necessary adjustments .....Yes, I was surprised about Russell Wilson 's performance , goes to show apparently the Steelers have better coaches to match Wilson's abilities with the right offensive schemes

Your Steelers looked good both offensively and defensively....I love the Styx Renegade song to fire up both players and fans.  And loved the enthusiasm for the Special Teams coach.....

@Spurt I've noticed a decline in Aaron Rodgers' playing lately. It could be his age (he will be 41 soon); effects of his injuries or the coaching. He might want to finish this season, but afterwards he should retire. I don't think he will improve much and it's not looking good for his future in the NFL. Rodgers has been successful and most likely will be a HOF candidate. Call it a day and retire before he gets hurt any worse.

Re: Week Seven of the 2024 NFL Regular Season!!!

The update on Washington's QB Jayden Daniels is that he is listed week to week and Dan Quinn said they will monitor his progress.

OT Brandon Coleman experienced concussion and his status is questionable for Sunday's game against the Bears. If healthy Coleman would go up against former Washington DE, Montez Sweat....Woman Frustrated

Re: Week Seven of the 2024 NFL Regular Season!!!

Health with Jayden Daniels was always going to be the issue. He took some vicious hits in college and never seemed to learn to avoid them. Some QBs like Russell Wilson in his prime in Seattle, never took a solid hit. He was very good at avoiding the big hits. Jayden Daniels throughout his career is more of a magnet for big hits. The highlight film of him getting clobbered in college goes on far too long. If he's going to last in the NFL, he's got to get that sorted out.

The Niners have confirmed the torn ACL for Brandon Aiyuk along with a torn MCL. He might be ready for the start of the 2025 season, or it might be about this time next year before he's back up to speed. Probably 2026 before he's fully back to normal.

Chris Godwin dislocated his ankle last night, so he's done for the year. The big worry with a dislocation is an interruption in the blood supply and nerve damage. Drop foot is fairly common with ankle dislocations due to nerve damage. That can slow recovery quite a bit.

There's a neat video of Nick Sirianni going to the bench and talking with Saquon. Nick has a stat guy in the booth telling him if any players are nearing milestones. He found out that Saquon was 14 yards from a personal best. He went to Saquon and told him that he was planning to pull the starters, but if Saquon wanted the milestone he'd keep them in for another series to get it. Saquon said no and to let the kids eat instead. Nick does that if a guy's nearing a contract bonus or is close to some other milestone. He looks out for his guys and they appreciate it. The media and talk radio folks may not like Nick, but his players do, and things like that are why they love him.

@gardenman @PARedbird

The Bucs took a big hit pardon the pun with both Godwin and Mike Evans hurt....Baker threw those 2 INTs early...I feel bad for Baker and the Bucs. I bet Kirk Cousins and the Falcons are smiling cause the NFC South is between those 2 teams and with the Bucs injuries the Falcons can win the Division if Kirk gets his act together, what happened he got benched

After watching the Bucs/ Ravens my Washington team didn't do too bad against the Ravens, especially with a pathetic defense....but we need Jayden...Mariota isn't going to cut it...

Things like what Nick did with Saquon set coaches apart and make them coaches that players like to play for....providing they don't mess up on other things.  Dan Quinn preaches playing for each other and being a real team and listening to interviews the players believe it and are doing it.....sounds like my Spur's and their philosophy.....of course Quinn did talk to Spur's GM now CEO, RC Buford, a couple yrs ago invited him to a game to discuss this and made it his philosophy, back in the Joe Gibbs Era Russ Grimm mentioned it too, the Redskins won the Super Bowl but he said they weren't the most talented but they played for each other and were a brotherhood...hmmmmm

Washington RB Jeremy McNichols, summed it up rather nicely. He talked about how selfless the team is and how many guys in the locker room are willing to take a back seat when another guy steps up....

Here's Spur's Keldon Johnson yesterday...

Keldon Johnson says he’s not worried about starting for the Spurs or coming off the bench. He’s only worried about about helping his team win.

Re: Week Seven of the 2024 NFL Regular Season!!!

Rumor has it that Howie is working the phones to swing a deal.  With guys like Maxx Crosby and Myles Garrett potentially available, he'd be a fool not to be making calls. They're two generational type talents at a position of future need for the Eagles. Josh Sweat is a free agent and likely leaving in 2025. Brandon Graham will likely retire at the end of the year. The Eagles have some kids (Nolan Smith Jr, Jalyx Hunt) and Bryce Huff, but things get a bit bare after that.

If he could land one of those guys (and both AFC teams would probably prefer the guy going to an NFC team) then the d-line would be as solid as any in the league going forward. Both guys have been solid teammates through the years and their clubs may want to reward them with a deal to a contender. (It's tacky to trade a good guy to a team like the Panthers.)

The next couple of weeks should be interesting. Both the Raiders and Browns may opt not to trade those guys. Their price tag may be too high. Or the Eagles could get outbid for them, but adding either one would be a huge boost. You're not going to get a comparable talent in the first round in 2025.

What's a fair price? Eh, it's hard to say. Both bring big contracts with them. That typically lowers the asking price a bit. The team trading for them is assuming a big contract. I would think both teams would be asking for multiple firsts, maybe they'd settle for a first and third? We'll have to see what happens, but if Howie lands either of those guys...

Do you send a player or players back? Eh, maybe.  I could see including Josh Sweat in a deal for one of those two guys. A DE for a DE.

Re: Week Seven of the 2024 NFL Regular Season!!!

Here's today's chuckle....Jerry Jones describes his radio show as "pillow talk"..... Oh that Jerry Jones Woman LOL

On a normal NFL team, the owner speaks once a year, and then almost sheepishly, as if everything about professional football is alien to him except the money.

Jones talks all the time. After a regular-season game, Dallas reporters wait outside the locker room for the players to finish their cooling-off period. When the locker-room door opens, Jones is often the first one out. He gives a press conference--the only owner in the NFL, if not sports, who regularly speaks after games.
