Bob Irsay wanted the city of Baltimore to pay for extensions at the stadium where the Colts played. Irsay was hot headed and arguments occurred. The Maryland state legislature voted to pull the Colts franchise out of Irsay's hand. Because of that vote, Irsay moved the team to Indianapolis in the middle of the night.

The whole situation could have been handled better, but Irsay is not the only one to blame. The state of Maryland also had a big part in the team leaving. It's incorrect to blame everything on the Colts; it's 50-50. 

This is  in the past. Everything turned out OK, after all.

Yep, you are both right, both sides contributed to the Colt's move......Much like what happened when The Oilers moved from Texas to Tennessee, Bud Adams the Oiler's owner wanted the city to build him a new stadium, and when they wouldnt he said the city didnt care........but the Oiler's owner was very much hated by everyone in Houston...The city didnt care about him........it was more like good riddance----"dont let the door hit ya when you leave"......That old saying was “if he was on fire, no one would even "tinkle" on him to put him out” - Most of Harris County felt that way about old Bud. He was a rude, crude, beady eyed old goat and just an embarrassment to the fans.

Now the move of the NBA Dallas Chaparrals from Dallas to San Antonio was congenial .....the new owner changed the name....over the history of the team we won 5 Championships.....Dallas eventually got a new NBA team, the Mavericks and has won one Championship....

it was a bad, sad time in our sports history.....we had had a number of losing seasons which was why baltimore was not keen on doing the improvements, the john elway debacle (who everyone hated also), and then the "sneaking out of town" incident. LOL people even began to hate the MAYFLOWER MOVING COMPANY who packed the colts up in darkness.
