I do not know how a tennis player survives the warmup with enough energy left to play the match. Well before the match, they go onto a practice court and have a significant workout with a hitting partner. Then they go to the locker room area and do a workout using stretching bands, bikes, treadmills, etc. I have seen some get off the bike and immediately go onto the court. I need a nap just watching the preparation for the match.
Knowing how to make a shot seems to be only part of today's tennis. Endurance both mentally and physically seems to occupy a bigger role than it did some years ago. I admire their stamina.

From my start of running in the 1960's, even professional sports did very little to warm up prior to a game/race and so on. To me it seemed more like a formality to them, than actually getting their body ready to perform at its max, in any competition.
I can speak primarily to hockey because of my involvement in every aspect of the game. Even though one is not a professional, most that compete, want to do their best each time. As one moves up in age, they have to be careful with this. I call it the gray line, between warming up just enough, versus taking energy away from playing your game.
Most that watch hockey, or figure skating, that have never ice skated! Good skaters make it look effortless while doing so. Having been a mid and long distance runner, this I can tell you. Ice skating is much physically harder on the body than running. I could list the physiological factors, but want to keep this shorter.
@On It , I get exactly what you are saying about pre competition warmups. It's all about getting the blood temperature up, and getting every muscle group as flexible as it can be.
Enjoy your weekend,

@On It Also your perspective and conditioning is critical. If you are functioning as a professional athlete, a warm-up is a different experience vs the majority of us who aspire to a healthy lifestyle, but not preparing for elite athletic events.
