Sumo Wrestling - The November Tournament (November 12- 26)

[ Edited ]

@qbetzforreal , @KBEANS , @Flatbush , and other Sumo fans:

September champion Terunofuji had to withdraw because of back pain. Three other top wrestlers are also out. Keep your eyes on Atamifuji and Gonoyama.

November 12 - 26 in Fukuoka

Enjoy!   Smiley Happy

ETA: My apologies! Terunofuji was NOT the September champion. Takakeisho was! He's on his way to Yokozuna. Terunofuji has not been in the tournaments for a while due to injuries.

I was afraid this would happen. Gives me doubt that he will ever be able to participate again.

@Flatbush - I'm afraid you're right. It's sad. DH and I are watching now!

@beach-mom- I happened upon the match highlights on NHK World this afternoon.

Sorry to see that Terunofuji isn't back.  I don't care for Takakeisho.

Kirishima is my fave.

We'll see what happens over the next two weeks.

@Flatbush - I'm still hoping Tobizaru will do well. He's my favorite, although some of the others are moving up! I didn't care for Takakeisho at first either, but he's growing on me. DH calls him "the little bulldozer" LOL!

@beach-mom

"the little bulldozer" greyt name. Yes, he does pretty well.

So many newer guys. today. We still root for Waka ...any of them will do.

I would love to see an American Yokozuna. Guess I am dreaming...lol

Re: Sumo Wrestling - The November Tournament (November 12- 26)

@Flatbush - There have been two.

Akebono (Chad Johnson) was the first American Yokozuna, followed by Musashimaru (Fiamalu Penitani) in the late 1990's. They are both from Hawaii, both married Japanese women, and are both living in Japan.

@artisto - You are so right! I taught in Japan for 3 years in my early 20's. It's such a peaceful country, steeped in tradition. I love watching programs about out-of-the way places that I never got to visit. Even watching the programs on this network is calming and peaceful.
