Remember those awful annual 'presidential' fitness nighmares? How I despised them. I destested gym anyway. It was mandatory through tenth grade. I recall being relieved when I hit my junior year and no more gym for me.

My 9th grade gym teacher was like a drill sargeant.  I mostly remember leg lifts where you slowly raised both legs straight up...hold...then lower as she slowly counted down from ten.  Absolute torture.   I also remember that menstrual cramps would give you a pass to sit out gym for the day. That got used often by many.

I remember having to do the bar hang, running around the field and also there was this balance bar we had to walk on although it was not that far off the ground which I could not do...fell off but what did they expect if one did not have gymnastic training from early childhood and no one I knew did.   The rope climb was only for the boys.  We probably had to do chin ups but I don't remember but probably would not have been able to do tt that either.

Why then at the end of the year did I get a certificate and patch for excellence in physical fitness back then there were no automatic awards.  But, I remember my parents being proud of me when I got this bogus thing.   Woman Very Happy
