@Spurt

Yeah, the Rams are pretty stacked in the NFC. They could be in real trouble if Stafford goes down for long.

That AFC West is stacked. Davante Adams going to the Raiders will help them a lot. The Chargers look really good. The Chiefs have the best coach and QB. The Broncos have a great roster and now Russell Wilson. The Bills and Bengals are very good. AFC games will be fun to watch.

Re: NFL News and Notes for May 2022!!!

Daniel Snyder won't be attending the league meetings this week, which is not smart on his part. He should be there schmoozing the other owners to try and keep 24 of them from uniting to vote him out. He should be there to answer questions and vow to do whatever they want to keep control of the team. It's easier to get rid of someone when you don't have to look them in the face. He's making it too easy for the others to unite against him.

It'll be interesting to see what comes from the league meetings. The Commanders could be looking for a new owner soon.

Yep, that is odd indeed that Snyder won't be attending the Spring Meeting and defending himself...he's getting BAD advice from someone!!! Oh well, as you said, it makes the job easier for the other owners to make the decision....

And if this dream does come true, and Snyder is outsted....a lot of Washington fans said they were going to petition the new owner for a new name!!!!!

Snyder's antics are also delaying plans for the new stadium, while Snyder has all these negtives hanging over his head no municipality in the DC/VA area wants to have him build the stadium in their jurisdictation....The only one that agreed to explore the idea was MD, but thats the problem, access to that area with no connection to public transportation makes it difficult for fans to get to their current stadium and no one wants to drive there and pay an outrageous amount for a parking pass....so the same problems would continue if the new stadium was in the same vacinity.....

Snyder thought by cleaning house and changing the team's name his problems would be over, but people keep stepping forward and pointing the finger saying Snyder was definitely involved in propositioning women and making snide remarks to them....

I loved this comment----

Another issue that has other owners frustrated with Dan Snyder’s more than two decade-long ownership has been the deterioration of the market and the fanbase in Washington. This was one once a respected team and organization that had a stranglehold on the market, but the losing and constant negative press has driven fans way from the franchise.

“I don’t know if he did these things they’re alleging now,” one of the owners said. “But I do know that no one in that market likes the guy.”

As one of the other owners put it, “There are some owners who believe the league will be better off with a different owner in Washington. At one time, it was one of the best franchises in the NFL.”

JMHO---and to think under JKC there was a waiting list to purchase season tickets and people even provided in their will who was to get their Redskin's season ticket spot. A far cry from a half empty stadium that it is today and those that are in attendance are mostly opponent's fans.

Jerry made this remark to Peter King---

In 1989, Jerry Jones bought the Cowboys for $150 million.  Jerry said while he will "never sell the Cowboys," the asking price now goes north of $10 billion. " Which caused one Cowboy fan to send a Twitter message to Elon Musk ....urging him to buy the Cowboys....Oh Oh could Jerry be next. 🤣🤣🤣  And Mike Florio's story about Jones/Snyder trying to get the Papa John's CEO to start talks about getting Goodelll replaced isn't good either....

There are three options. Snyder may be convinced he has the eight votes he needs to stay the owner. His handlers/advisers may know he'd cause more trouble if he went. Or he may know he doesn't have the support and rather than beg, he's looking to take the league to court.

We'll have to see which option is right. I'd lean towards the last one, but we'll see.

Re: NFL News and Notes for May 2022!!!

The Eagles have been pretty lucky with owners. Leonard Tose was the first I remember, and he just loved the team. He spoiled the players. He was replaced with Norman Braman who was more bottom-line oriented and owned the team for nine years while it declined. Then Jeffrey Lurie came along, and things rebounded.

The Commanders are kind of a mess now. An older, bad stadium that's largely falling down. No real success in recent years. It's hard for their fan base to be wildly enthusiastic. Winning cures a lot of ills though and revives a fan base. Can they win though?

The schedule makers helped them a bit this year. There are two likely wins up front with Jacksonville and Detroit. Then the Eagles and Cowboys. Win one of those two and they're at 3-1 and have some momentum.

A new owner could be an upgrade, or not. You just never know. A new owner would likely want a new coach and GM and reboot the organization. Older players would get dumped and a new, younger roster would replace them. That can be good or bad. Get the right pieces to build around and it's good. Get the wrong pieces and it's not so good.

Stadium prices have gotten crazy. It used to be you could build a really nice stadium for $100 million. These days it's more like $2 billion as a starting point. Those are some pretty scary numbers.

Yep you are right, about owners, Taglibue wanted the Redskins to stay in the Cooke family---but JKC's son, John, had been instructed in the will to sell the club and a start a foundation. John didnt have enough money on his own to buy the team, and the top candidates were Snyder (who was an actual Redskin fan he was a one time partner of another bidder, Milstein) New York Real Estate Mogul, Howard Milstein was the strongest bidder, but Milstein faced rejection by the other owners for a variety of reasons, and some of his financing was questionable, so he withdrew his bid in exchange for the 30 million returned to him in what was supposed to be a non-refundable bid that Milstein had paid JKC's Estate....Other bidders that didnt make the cut ----Phoenix Developer Sam Grossman, who said he ended up at $720 million the first time but apparently missed the bidding deadline.  Orioles owner Peter Angelos dropped out of the bidding because he objected to the blind bidding process. He probably wouldn't enter a second round if the bidding were conducted the same way. That left Snyder who made a bid on his own.....And the rest is an unfortunate history....😒😫

And your right, a new owner could be part of what me and my co-workers refer to as "The Jonie Mitchell Syndrome" and her song, "Big Yellow Taxi" in comparing changes of Bosses in our Department.....and the line from the Mitchell song, "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone"....In other words Bosses we thought were bad were actually OKAY compared to new ones that were actually WORSE!...🙄  Everytime we heard the song played over Muzak everyone would laugh at the inside joke......

Yep, someone could actually be worse, although in Danny's case hard to imagine---BUT there are already a lot of Bad owners who dont want to spend a lot of money to make their franchise a success....they just like the prestige of being an NFL owner and they dont really seem to care much about winning....

As far as sport's stadium---they dont really need to incorporate all these far out designs and crazy stuff like an expensive art gallery or fancy fountains, glass stadium sail shaped roof with curves, "Hollywood glamour",  a lake, a 5 star hotel and  residential apartments!!...

REALLY?!?!?!?!...SMH!!!!

There are ways to cut costs by just having a decent stadium with seats with good site lines in a good location with decent affordable food and beverages!

Re: NFL News and Notes for May 2022!!!

[ Edited ]

@gardenman

Previously various member's of Snyder's extended family (sister and mother) and minority investors had owned 40.5% of the franchise.  However, in March 2021, the NFL owners unanimously approved Snyder's purchase of the remaining 40.5% of the Washington Football Team from the franchise's minority owners. Now the team is totally owned by Daniel Snyder!

The NFL also approved a $450 million debt waiver as well as the $875 million sale. Snyder bought out his three longtime minority investors, Fred Smith, Dwight Schar and Robert Rothman, who have been with Snyder since 2003. Snyder will have to repay the debt by 2028. The Washington Post reported in November that a group of investors had offered the minority shareholders $900 million to sell but that Snyder blocked the move.  How is Snyder on his own going to pay off that debt in 6 years????  It isnt going to be by season ticket sales that's for sure (sarcasm)......

There is another odd thing too that happened---Four of the largest sponsors have pulled their support of the Washington Franchise---Anheuser-Busch, Fed-Ex, Pepsi, and Bank Of America.....

With the debt and loss of major sponsors could Snyder be having money problems?????....he also couldnt afford to trademark some of the more popular names the fans had submitted as candidates for the teams new name?????

The Pantherrs II...errrr...Washington.... signed OT

Aaron Monteiro on Monday. He became a free agent May 12 after the Panthers waived him.

Well it is a good idea to have sufficient depth on the o-line in case injuries....................

And the  Eagles signed CB Jimmy Moreland, ex-Washington player, ex-Texan ....in Washington he was well liked by the fans and he was nicknamed "The Peoples Corner" He was the 2019 seventh-round pick and played in 30 games over his first two seasons. Moreland has 88 tackles, a half-sack, an interception, and a forced fumble over his entire career,  but only got on the field seven times during his year in Houston.  Washington even contemplared bringing him back .....

The Eagles had been interested in Moreland earlier. He's something of a luxury now, but you can never have too many good corners.

Word is the Eagles contemplated signing Nick Foles as teams were interested in Minshew, but ultimately decided keeping Minshew was smarter.
