I know what you mean houses by the River it may be picturesque, but a big clue is when you are buying or thinking of building a house and in addition to Homeowners Insurance you are going to be REQUIRED by law to purchase FLOOD INSURANCE because the land is in a designated Flood Zone look at other locations instead!..Woman Frustrated

About the emergency service, great idea you had!... It was interesting one time when my sister and another friend and I were shopping in the Hill Country, they wanted to call another friend to see if she wanted to join us for dinner when we got back to San Antonio, but they couldn't get a signal with their newest phone model and ATT phone service.....but me and my Tracfone/Verizon phone from QVC I could make the call....sometimes being frugal has its benefits..(Tracfone uses available towers, ATT only uses ATT towers).Woman Wink

I agree with your analysis about those playoff predictions....

Re: NFL News and Notes for July 2025!!!

@gardenman - sounds very promising for the Bills!  I'll pass all that good info onto my coworker!  I forgot we were playing them so he and I will have alot of trash talking with each other!  LOL!  On the AFC side, I'd love to see them go far.  I'm really over the Chiefs big time!

OMG, just was reading Travis Kelce is going to be in Happy Gilmore 2!!  Are you kidding me!  Just move on from football!

Re: NFL News and Notes for July 2025!!!

@Spurt - I also love Fredericksburg!  My friend took me there the one time.  A beautiful town and nice shops.  Reminds me a bit where I live here in PA.  I also loved New Braunfels and Gruene!

And Chris Suchan is THE BEST of meteorologists!  Beats our Philly group by far!  They get a bit too dramatic up here with the weather, where Chris is so good and gives the facts.  That 4 Zone they do is genius!

I can't even imagine the nightmare of what the parents are going thru until their child is found.  I don't have much hope at this point they'll be found alive but at least find them!  Smiley Sad

I never heard if any of our players went to see the 76'ers but talk about a snoozefest!  They stink big time!!  Them and the Flyers.  I hate hockey anyway!  Eagles are about the only ones that give sports fans something to cheer for!  Even the Phillies are up and down!  I don't see them going to the World Series.  Once on awhile they have a winning streak, per what they say on the sports on the news but not alot.  Either way, I don't care!  Only care about the Eagles and the Spurs!

Speaking of the Eagles, when I'm out and about, that's the only tee shirt or sweatshirt logo I see people wearing!  Never any other Philly sports team!  LOL

Re: NFL News and Notes for July 2025!!!

The writer in Total Pro Sports thinks that Rams chance of enterting the playoff depends on Matthew Stafford's health. He also isn't sold on J.J. McCarthy, has to see him play first.

Jason Kelce is getting a lot of criticism for posting the idea that the the 4th is a great day for putting differences aside and focusing on us being Americans. He said nothing of politics, but people are ragging on him anyway. This reaction is crazy. A person can't post something positive about the country anymore.

OT: I have Nokia 2780 flip phone with the carrier KaiOS (attribute of Linux), where I purchase minutes and data every three months. The phone fits my needs with text, camera, internet if I want it, music, videos, email, etc. I have internet on my desktop and laptops, so don't need it on my phone. The voice quality is good. Simple yet effective.

Yep your right cheaper phones have what people need but other folks spend a whole lot of extra money unnecessarily just to brag they have the latest and greatest which will soon be outdated!....I can't believe what my sister spends...

You are so right, people can't post anything encouraging or positive without it being criticized.....smh

Yeah, those picturesque little streams tend to become raging rivers from time to time. There are some risks you have to live with, but don't go out of your way to find trouble. What some consider an asset, I consider a liability.

I don't know if it's like this in Texas, but locally we get so many flood watches/warnings/advisories that you just ignore them. It's been a wet spring and we've probably had twenty to thirty coastal flood watches, advisories, and warnings since March. We've had zero flooding. It seems like if there's a one percent chance of flooding, they'll issue an alert. At some point they'll be right and there will be a flood, and everyone will ask, "Why didn't you listen to the warning?" Well, because 99% of the time they're false alarms.

@gardenman

You make an EXCELLENT POINT....yes, unfortunately there are SOME weather persons that love the limelight and love to make a mountain out of a mole hill and they cry wolf too many times, so they get ignored....There's only a couple of people I trust.....

I remember one time this one egomaniac, Alex Garcia, (he got let go by one of the major channels, I don't remember which one now, but he got a job on a Fox secondary channel, THE CW)  He was really talking this storm up and the "catastrophic weather ahead" he promised live up dates. ....Well this huge rain storm he promised was nothing but a light steady rain that stopped after 10 minutes....So with programming interrupted, there he was on location talking some BS and his cameraman focused on filming a Mud Puddle (I kid you not because there was no other water anywhere)....And when the camera guy focused his camera on Alex talking, you could see kids playing and riding their bikes in the background on what turned out to be a sunny afternoon......Boy did people razzz him about this incident....lol....Woman LOL

One time, we did have a real incident, a small tornado sighting, a very rare incident around our part of Texas, and the local channels interrupted national programming to report it, well when it dissipated and all the meteorologists were giving the viewers the all clear notice and national programming resumed, all but ONE channel that is, which stayed on the air STILL hyping up the tornado that was no more...smh!!!

It's funny as we're talking about this and I have the local news on in the background and the guy in charge of the rescue team is also are talking about the same thing we are---people hearing so many weather reports that people think they are crying wolf and ignore what are real warnings so people don't evacuate .....

But I also don't like all the hype some meteorologist use in order to claim the prestigious title #1 weather team in San Antonio .... some have egos as big as Texas....there's one rain drop and they make it out to be an historic event SHEESH .I like Chris Suchan and Philadelphia Eagle fan, Jeannette Calle.....they also got an award for most accurate, but sadly the inaccurate ones focus on popularity and hog the camera time!

Re: NFL News and Notes for July 2025!!!

@Spurt - you are so correct!  I think so many meteorologists are ego maniacs and love the attention.  I know who Alex Garcia is as I remember him on the sister station to WOAI.  I only ever watched Chris and Jeanette and follow Chris on Instagraman and FB to this day.  The very best team!  Just the facts and no drama!  Our NBC station out of Philly is very good too.  No drama, just the facts.  Maybe it's an NBC thing with the stations?

I saw more on the evening national news and then they showed a few of the kids that didn't make it.  Well, that did it for me and I cried.  So traumatic for everyone and even those kids that survived will need counseling, I'm sure.

Spurt, stay safe as they said something on the news tonight that with more rain and flooding, it will also flood in San Antonio and we both know how some of the roads downn there can be!  Don't go out if you can avoid it!  My friend Lynda said she's been staying put!
