Re: NFL News and Notes for July 2020!!!

Polls I saw of Native Americans showed that most didn't mind the name Redskins and quite a large percentage liked it. Of course, polls can be cooked to show whatever those paying for the poll want, so who knows.

Re: NFL News and Notes for July 2020!!!

The Blogging the Boys website is already comparing Ceedee Lamb to Randy Moss. Sure, that's not putting any pressure on the kid. It'll be interesting to see how he does. Speed isn't everything in the NFL but he ran a 4.5 forty which is pretty slow by modern standards. That would have been about fiftieth fastest at the combine. At least one tight end ran faster than that and so did some linebackers. Most DBs run faster than that so he's not running away from them. He's not the biggest guy at 6'-2" 198 lbs. so he won't be overpowering guys. Some guys with those numbers excel and some fade away. We'll have to see how he does.

It's likely to take him a few years to mature into the NFL game, but with people already calling him another Randy Moss, he may not get that time. Randy Moss was 6'-4" and ran a 4.24-4.28 forty time. That's a quarter of a second faster than Ceedee Lamb and two inches taller with longer arms. With that difference in size and speed, it'll be hard for the kid to match Moss's numbers. Modern DBs are pretty darn good these days also.

If you're a Cowboy fan expecting the kid to be Randy Moss this year, you'd best rethink your expectations. He may be a pretty good wide receiver. He may become a very good wide receiver. Or he may find the talent level at the NFL too much. We'll have to see, but I wouldn't expect too much from the kid right away.

Hey, GARDENMAN, we have Randy's son.....what about genetics....but he's a TE...so never mind.... 😄

You have to realize something....living in Texas I know, all the Boyz fans are BLINDED by that star on the helmet..LOL..It will be interesting to see what Lamb does. And afterall, dont forget didn't Jerrah set those Super Bowl expectations for the team and fans Smiley Wink .....

OH BTW PFT ranked Terry McLaurin as the best WR in the NFC East.... Woman Very Happy

I want to offer my sympathies....Stephen Jackson came to the defense of DJack...and as usual Stephen "the bigmouth" ended up with a not so good apology himself (I could tell you stories, he was Spur--- won championship with the team back in 2003, he left over money, Pop felt sorry for him, brought him back in 2012 he didnt like being a backup, what he put the Spurs through--he left for the Warriors, retired---hmmm Warriors, possible new nickname for the Redskins, my sports teams seem to have Twilight Zone connections )

Re: NFL News and Notes for July 2020!!!

Thaddeus Moss will be an interesting guy to watch. He's an excellent blocking tight end and has great hands. His two big issues are route running (not crisp) and speed. He's fast over a hundred yards, but not quick. He builds speed instead of bursts. I was that way too in my younger days. I'd race someone and they'd pull away from me at the start. About forty yards in I'd start gaining ground on them. At about the seventy yard mark I'd pass them, and at a hundred yards I'd be well ahead and pulling away. Sadly, there aren't a lot of routes designed for guys who build speed over time. Quickness counts more in sports.

If Moss can improve his route running, he has a shot at sticking in the league. A tight end who can't get open though is a problem.

@gardenman  @teganslaw  @yellowrose  @redwingsgal @sunshine45

My favorite sports morning show is DEAD (last day is July 31st) despite decent ratings ESPN decided to axe it for several reasons---  Trey Wingo's ESPN contract is up in November and he said he didnt want to do the morning radio show (doesnt want to get up that early and then also do NFL live and other shows later on the late afternoon).....Mike Golic Sr's contract was up in August....

Instead of just replacing Wingo with Jason Fitz who has filled in many times for Trey, ESPN prefers to scrap the whole thing and bring in OBNOXIOUS Keyshawn Johnson as the "star" (he couldnt even make it on the MNF pre-game show...SMH) and pair him with Jay Williams (NBA) he's pretty dull and boring and another guy, never heard of him Zubin....And it seems that ALL ESPN analysts seem to want to talk about is politics rather than sports (and it was this way even before the pandemic---viewers complained but ESPN doesnt listen)....One Blog writer referred to the network as MSESPN....

I think the NFL Network will see the GMF numbers skyrocket as they did when Mike & Mike was terminated and ESPN went with Get Up that didnt do well in the ratings...(Get Up recovered somewhat, after a change in cast members, but still nowhere near the ratings of Mike & Mike, and they gave an hour of the show back to Sports Center)..... GMF is knowns for keeping the talk on the NFL and no politics involved which viewers crave....

Anyway, I said all that to say this---what is your morning go to show for sports TV or radio???(be it NFL or all sports?).....I cannot abide Skip Brainless and Shannon (Not)Sharp on FS1 for sure....Woman Frustrated  Any thoughts? Comments?..........

@Spurt

I mostly use twitter for my sports news. I follow players, teams, sportswriters that I like and rely on them to keep me informed along with multiple sports websites.

Re: Terry McLaurin being the best wide receiver in the NFC East, I'm not sure I'd agree. He may have had the best year last year,  but Darius Slayton of the Giants was pretty good last year, and if Amari Cooper can ever play as well on the road as at home (he's got really weird home/away stats) then he'd be up there also. If DeSean and Alshon ever get/stay healthy, they'd be in the mix also.

When you look at the new kids coming in this year in Ceedee Lamb, Jalen Reagor, and the rest of the Eagles 4x100 track team, if they can transfer what they did in college to the pros, well McLaurin may end up a top five guy but not the best. I think Lamb will have the toughest transition (now watch him win rookie of the year) due to his speed. A 4.5 guy really doesn't threaten a defense that much.

Considering the QBs he was playing with, Reagor put up some amazing numbers. Only something like 30+% of the balls thrown his way were catchable in his last year in college. That's an absurdly low number. He's faster than McLaurin having run a 4.22 and 4.28 forty on his virtual pro day. He ran slower at the combine, but the video from his pro day doesn't lie. He carries that speed onto the football field also where he's always the fastest guy out there.

The fight for the title of best NFC East receiver will be interesting to watch in 2020. McLaurin could be the guy. DeSean might finally stay healthy and win it. Slayton could grab it. Lamb could be the guy. Maybe Cooper can be hypnotized to think every game is a home game. Maybe one of the Eagles' speedsters steals the title. We'll have to see how it plays out.

Re: NFL News and Notes for July 2020!!!

Hmmm...NFL.com says the Cowboys have the seventh most complete roster in the NFL. If you ignore the defensive backs and tight ends, you could make that argument, assuming the old guys they brought in on the d-line show up and play. They lost a competent starting safety (Heath) and a pro-bowl caliber starting cornerback (Byron Jones). Jason Witten is gone. Travis Frederick their all-pro center is retired. Randall Cobb is gone. They lost 11.5 sacks when Robert Quinn left.  I'm not sure that personnel-wise they're as good as they were last year and they were 8-8 last year.

They got "name" guys to replace some of those they lost in Haha Clinton-Dix, who's now on his fourth team in the last two years. The Packers had him, traded him to the team formerly known as the Redskins in October 2018, The Bears signed him in 2019 and now the Cowboys. That's a whole lot of movement in a relatively short period of time. Not typically a good omen. Gerald McCoy and Dontari Poe were good in their day, but that was four or five years ago. Aldon Smith was last on a football field in 2015. His legal record is longer than his football record.

I don't know. Maybe I'm missing something, but I see a whole lot of holes on that roster that they're hoping they've filled, but I'm not sure they have. I wouldn't have picked them as the seventh most complete roster in the league.

When I want to read sports news I use Twitter too,and  just the way you have it organized with all my favorite columnists, players, teams etc.......... But its nice to have sports talk in the background while Im working or doing household chores etc....looking for some live interaction....

As far as WRS we will have to wait and see a lot of McLaurin's success will depend on the development of Haskins, but without much training time McLaurin/Haskins will have to rely a bit on the chemistry they developed in college....And lets see if DJack can STAY out of trouble...Do you think he's learned his lesson to think before he posts... Smiley Wink

I laughed when I saw that the Cowboys were ranked as one of the most complete teams especially with the uncertainty of their QB's status and holes on defense.......@teganslaws Colts should have been given more love especially when they said their O-line could be the best in the NFL even supplanting the Cowboys whose O line suffered with the retirement of Frederick ........

And if the Redskins dumped HaHa Clinton Dix how good could he be...SMH!!!

Re: NFL News and Notes for July 2020!!!

I get most of sports news on the NFL website. The Colts news is through the website Stampede Blue and others.

What exactly does "most complete team" mean? The Cowboys haven't gotten a long term contract for Dak, so that's up in the air. Although he won't be sitting out the season since he signed the tag.

Julian Edelman said that he will take DeSean Jackson to the Holocaust Museum for awareness. The he would also visit the Black History Museum and they could have a conversation. I don't know if Jackson accepted, but it would be a start.

Hey, we browse the same main SB Nation Blog Site, your Stampede Blue is part of the SB nation that includes my HogsHaven Blog---They have some good info. I dont know why the Redskins chose Extreme Skins as the "official blog"....I found it to be rude and raunchy with actually very little sports news once you filter through all the 4 letter words....(and the name sounds like a porn site).....Woman LOL

Theres a few other Blogs that are decent like Warpath (I wonder if they will change their name)....and Riggosrag. I also enjoy John Riggin's Podcast .
