Re: NFL News and Notes for February 2024: The Super Bowl Edition!!!

[ Edited ]

This is a bit Jerry JonesIsh/Daniel Snyderish---Most owners don’t attend the combine but Washington owner, Josh Harris, is not only in Indianapolis, but a part of the quarterback interview process. Josh Harris has sat in and taken part of each of the six interviews that the team has conducted with the top quarterback prospects in this draft.

Maybe he just wants to learn the process since the NBA and NHL are differently run.....

Well, he did pay $6+ billion dollars for the team, and QB is arguably the most important roster spot, so getting a bit hands on might not be the worst thing. And it's probably better for the GM and coaches if he's in agreement on the ranking of the kid QBs. The owner, coach, and GM all agreeing on a guy takes the heat off of all of them should things go poorly. And they typically go poorly. It's better for all of them to say, "He fooled us," than for one guy to fight for a kid who flops.

But look what happened with Carolina..... Panthers owner David Tepper called the choice of Bryce Young over C.J. Stroud a “unanimous” choice among the team’s scouts and coaches. However, there were reports that Young was Tepper’s preferred choice and that others fell in line with what their boss wanted in the draft. When things didn't work out with Young and the Panthers, and Carolina saw how things worked out rather well for CJ Stroud and the Texans, respected Coach Frank Reich became the fall guy responsible for the decision and was fired as Carolina’s head coach after only 11 games into the 2023 season.......I hope things don't work that way with Washington's Harris and important personnel decisions ----when even though there is a "consensus", I hope that one person doesn't end up getting all the blame because no one had the guts to stand up and disagree with the boss and explain what they REALLY think!!!!.....Woman Frustrated

Re: NFL News and Notes for February 2024: The Super Bowl Edition!!!

The NFLPA Club Report Cards are out and the Eagles ranked fourth overall. Head Coach Nick Sirianni got an A from the players. The two negative areas were travel and child care. The Eagles got Cs in both of those categories, but As and Bs in everything else.

The three teams above the Eagles are the Dolphins, Vikings, and Packers. The five worst teams are the Steelers, Patriots, Chargers, Chiefs, and Commanders. For some reason, the Commander's players didn't like raw sewage seeping into the locker room. Go figure.

The ratings can help a highly-ranked team land a free agent or two while the lower-ranked teams may struggle a bit more.

The Chiefs are releasing Marquez Valdez-Scantling as they seek to rebuild the receiver room after the season of drops. Expect many more changes to come there. They ended up winning the Super Bowl but their receivers weren't a huge help for them most of the season. With Travis Kelce getting up there a bit in years, they need to have some guys who can also catch the ball.

Re: NFL News and Notes for February 2024: The Super Bowl Edition!!!

The Colts had a low report on Treatment of family and Team travel.

Head coach was "A-" Shane Steichen is popular with players.

Ownership was "C" . I guess some of Jim Irsay's tweets didn't go over with everyone.

Re: NFL News and Notes for February 2024: The Super Bowl Edition!!!

Lots of players with big contracts getting cut to create salary cap room. The Eagles released Kevin Byard. I thought they might try to rework his deal and keep him, but they opted to let him walk. The Commanders flushed Logan Thomas and Charles Leno. I suspect a team will pick up Logan Thomas. He's shown enough flashes to get some team's attention and it's not a TE-heavy draft.

The Cowboys have been pretty quiet so far. They met with the agents for a couple of their free agents yesterday to try and get a feel for the market. They've got to create some cap room. JJ remains confident that he and Dak can reach a new deal. Some close to Dak are saying he'd like to test free agency in 2025. (Not a bad idea as the 2025 draft is reportedly very light on quality QBs.) If JJ wants to keep Dak, he'll have to overpay him.

The Eagles reportedly talked with LB Edgerrin Cooper and the defensive coaches gave him quite the Q&A session to see if and how well he could pick up the new system. He's a guy they might grab early. One, he fills a need. Two, with Leighton Vander-Esch retiring due to his neck issues, the Cowboys will be needing a new LB, so taking him ahead of the Cowboys strengthens the Eagles and weakens the Cowboys. Kind of a win/win if the kid is as good as people say he is.

The problem with Logan Thomas is he can't stay healthy.....!!!!! And he's 32

And thank God and greyhound Washington released Nick Gates he was terrible and made our online even worse than it was, why would we sign a reject from the Giants that had an awful oline!, What was Rivera and company thinking when they signed him????? Charles Leno was projected to be cut too, he's 32 and his play has declined---he's a nice guy, and he and his wife do so much in the community, but Washington needs upgrades to protect whatever QB is at the helm.........We still need to get rid of Andrew Wylie..He started all 17 regular season games in 2022 but was second in the NFL in blown blocks (45) and tied for third in sacks allowed (11)...Sam Cosmi and Tyler Larsen were the best players on the oline......We drafted Rick Stromberg last yr and he could be ready to plug in.....Adam Peter's needs to focus on getting us some decent linemen its truly a TOP PRIORITY

The Lions extended Coach Dan Campbell's and GM's Brad Holmes contracts thru 2027......Good move!

Former #Lions LB Anthony Pittman plans to sign a one year deal with Washington. He played in every game over the past three seasons with Detroit. Pittman was also a core special teamer for the Lions. Now reunited with new Washington assistant GM Lance Newmark.
