There really aren't a lot of good options out there for tight ends this offseason. The free agent pool is pretty shallow. The kids coming out in the draft aren't all that impressive. The Cowboys need a tight end, so Witten was a decent pickup for them. It's not a great option for them, but it's better than nothing. With Dallas having no first round pick, and lots of needs, resigning Witten makes some sense. They can use him for a year and hope to pick up a kid in next year's draft or sign a free agent.
