Re: NFL News and Notes for August 2023!!!

The Eagles' depth at cornerback just got a bit shallower. Zech McPhearson tore his Achilles last night. The Browns seemed to feel he was a weakness as they threw at him all night and largely succeeded. His injury opens up a slot for one of the kids who might have landed on the practice squad instead.

Re: NFL News and Notes for August 2023!!!

The NFL website said that there will be no QB competition in Philly that Mariota remains the backup. I don't understand why Sirianni won't let Mariota and McKee compete. McKee has outplayed Mariota so far, so why not give him a chance? Maybe the Eagles feel that they put too much effort into obtaining Mariota and they don't want that to fail. I'm not sure what other reason there would be.

As far as the 2024 Super Bowl halftime show, it won't be Taylor Swift. She has declined appearing at the Super Bowl, as she's busy with her Eras tour. That's probably for the best, Swifties would take up many tickets and the real football fans could be left out. Taylor Swift's presence would distract from the game itself.

@teganslaw - totally agree with you.  I watched some of the game last night and the comments were being made that Mariota wasn't having a great night and then on the Philly news, the sports commentators were making the same comments.

I also found it interesting for the the two guys that called the game said they feel the NFC East could go to anyone and how the other teams were so improved.  I got the feeling they weren't big Eagles supporters.

As for my Washington team---

This is fun--Washington ran a play with WR Curtis Samuel at quarterback and QB Sam Howell as a wide -out....looks like Coach EB has some tricks up his sleeve---so different from Scott Turner!

And if EB himself makes a mistake he's the first to admit it.... The offense was lined up for a play and EB started shouting a play and, apparently he was saying the wrong one, and he said “AYE THATS ON ME. IM GONNA SHUT THE (blank) UP.".......

Remember the several skirmishes in the joint practices--well it caused an injury--CB Danny Johnson suffered a rotator cuff injury when he was slammed to the ground by Ravens TE Mark Andrews.

O-linemen Charles Leno and Andrew Wylie didn't participate in team drills. Wylie did some individual work and was wearing a sleeve on his left lower leg.

TE Cole Turner appeared to hurt his hand on a pass play. Ball bounced off his fingers and he came off holding his right hand. Head athletic trainer Al Bellamy taped two of his fingers together and he’s back on the sideline. And we need Turner since TE Logan Thomas is banged up---

Chase Young (stinger) injury update from Ron Rivera: "This is all about getting past a certain point with the doctors and then we'll go from there. But he's going to be out here. He's allowed to do everything except for contact right now.”

And CB Kendall Fuller was not at practice.

Here's olineman Sam Cosmi giving some love to some canine Washington fans ---Hammy & Olivia---at first I didnt notice the dog in the backpack....

A stat that will never not be mind-numbing: Washington has had 27 starting quarterbacks since 2000. Terry McLaurin, who was drafted in 2019, has played with 10 of them. He's had 1,000+ receiving yards in each of the last three seasons. TERRY MCLAURIN IS AMAZING!~

Re: NFL News and Notes for August 2023!!!

The Colts-Bears game is on my local CBS station tonight. The same players who were in last week's game will start for the Colts.

The Bears will use their backups. Justin Fields won't play. I don't know who will start for the Bears. I lost track of who their backup QB is.

I was able to watch the Panthers-Giants game on NFL+ last night. Usually I can only listen to live games on my laptop and have to watch replays. Last night I could access the live game on my laptop, though I don't know how that happened. Maybe it had to do with the station the Giants were on.

The Panthers need to improve their O-line. Bryce Young was running for his life. He has moments, but he can't do much if he's not protected. Daniel Jones had a decent game in the time he played. Bobby Okereke, formerly of the Colts, and Thibideaux (sp?) did damage on defense for the Giants. Okereke might have found a new home for himself. I like to see him do well.

My sis was happy with her first string Giant starters and Daniel Jones.......my brother tried to point out they are playing a young and rebuilding Panthers team with a rookie QB!!!!.....

Re: NFL News and Notes for August 2023!!!

@gardenman maybe you can help me understand something. My Packers had scrimmages with Cincinnati last week and then played them. Same thing this week except with New England. Is this a new thing throughout the NFL? I'm not convinced a team should be practicing with the team they are playing a day or two later. Seems to me if there are bad feelings, players would know any weak points and could potentially target players on the opposing team. My husband looked at me like I was crazy when I made that statement so feel free to tell me I'm not making sense. I just don't get it!

Re: NFL News and Notes for August 2023!!!

@AuntG

Teams view the combined practices as a safer way to see their starters against another team than in a preseason game. It also gives both teams' execs a chance to see what kind of talent another team has and maybe make a deal for a guy. It's becoming more common each year.

The Eagles and Browns held joint practices last week and the Eagles and Colts will be doing it this week. It can be good, it can be bad. The Browns obviously thought they could attack Eagles cornerback Zech McPhearson after the joint practices as they just attacked him in the game and largely succeeded.

Fly!!! Eagles!!! Fly!!!
